Future Air Travel: Four-Hour Process, Self Check-In, Disinfection, Immunity Passes
Forbes ^ | 05/10/2020 | Cecelia Rodriguez

What You Can Expect

Among the steps under consideration: no cabin bags, no lounges, no automatic upgrades, face masks, surgical gloves, self-check-in, self-bag-drop-off, immunity passports, on-the-spot blood tests and sanitation disinfection tunnels.

Digital technologies and automation will play a critical role in the future of air travel. The need to reduce “touchpoints” at airports implies mandatory use of biometric boarding that allows passengers to board planes with only their face as a passport.

If the airlines go full retard, the amount of air travel will decrease enough so that it might make sense to consider re-regulation of the industry.

Bring back Pan Am
Bring back cute stewardesses
Bring back proper attire for passengers
Bring back air travel as an experience

Wife is trying to get back from Taiwan. Maybe I could seal her in a plastic bag to travel in? It’s only a 22 hr trip to get here. She could hold her breath.

Totally fresh air could be supplied to all passengers easily via spacial masks.

Dude......

You don't happen to be in the bottled O2 business, do you ?

Only mass vaccinations will restore the economy.

Safety test vaccine candidates on maker scientists, managers and their children. Should take about two weeks.

Then you and your doctor have a decision to make.

If you and your doctor chose an ineffective product, time for another decision.

Many decisions will be correct and many lives will be saved.

Those tanks have only enough O2 to last 15 minutes...just enough time to get below 13000 ft, where you don’t need it. There isn’t a tank big enough for a full flight for hours. Too heavy.

With a few exceptions, my personal rule has been if its more than a 6 or 7 hour drive, consider air travel.

I think I’ll just stay where I’m at.

That's the idea.

OTOH, I'll drive. Like to anyways.

So socialism. Gotcha.

SHIT!!! My already strong dislike for flying and airports (I have enough Delta points for a free first class round trip, Atlanta to Sacramento, that I don’t intend to use.) has just increased by a few orders of magnitude. Looks like all my future trips will be first class by my 2018 Lincoln Navigator.

I’ve driven NY to FL several times and it’s worth it.

Saves a lot on car rental when you get there and you can take everything you want or need.

I tend to agree with you. Those attitudes, along with related stories, are out there and are definitely trying to scare people. CNN has no purpose other than to pour fuel onto a fire.

At this point, with the data we now have, unlike at the beginning, what is it about this virus that is SO different? A little more virulent? A little more lethal? That is impacts the old and weak? ...but isn’t that typical of the flu?

Somebody needs to articulate this. Viruses have always existed, so have our Constitutional rights. Somebody needs to explain why they’ve been suspended, what makes this virus, objectively, any different than other viruses?

Our rights are at stake. I demand a good answer. Otherwise...

Once you are on a plane, you are getting very clean air. 50% is recycled thru a HEPA filter. 50% is brought in from outside. The flow goes from the top of the cabin to the floor - vertical. And it is refreshed 3 times a minute.

AIRPORTS will be the problem. There isn’t enough room to do the social distancing thing. I base that on what I saw flying last week.

This is the Green New Dealers wet dream. They wanted to shut down air travel, this will pretty much do it.

AOC must be smiling.

There is at most, a little over 10 minutes of oxygen for the masks on a plane. It is just to alow survival until the plane gets to a lower elevation. It would be costly to supply air for the entire trip. Air during a normal trip comes from a system that removes it from outside the plane. In fact, everything in this article will make flying very expensive.

If checking in is going to be a 4-hour process, add the time in the air and the time it takes to get to the airport and it could be an 8-hour ordeal.

And all the while, you will be wearing a mask, breathing your own breath and filling your lungs with CO2. Under those circumstances only those desperate to get somewhere in an emergency will ever fly. A major component of the Green Deal, the end of air travel, will have been achieved.

“Only mass vaccinations will restore the economy.”

And how long will it take to vaccinate 7 1/2 billion people? Heck, how long just to immunize the 327 million in the US? They are excited about being able to test 100K a day, which they are not doing.
