Human nature is human nature, and the urge by corrupt people to abuse power will not be eradicated except by supernatural means. The more sophisticated technology gets, the more opportunity to abuse it.
One phrase endlessly abused by the left is the future, since the last thing they want people to do is look to the past and the lessons there; this is in the Communist Manifesto, not just Orwells works:
In bourgeois society, therefore, the past controls the present; in Communist society, the present controls the past.
There are no true anachronisms in human society (although one thing that has to be made anachronistic is tyranny), and any threats to what the Founding Fathers set up have to be held at bay.
