NEW YORK (Reuters) - Joe Biden's advantage over President Donald Trump in popular support has eroded in recent weeks as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee struggles for visibility with voters during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday.

The opinion poll conducted on Monday and Tuesday found that 43% of registered voters said they would support Biden in the Nov. 3 presidential election, while 41% said they would back Trump. That makes the contest essentially a toss-up, as the results are within the poll's credibility interval.

Biden led by 6 percentage points in a similar poll last week and by 8 points in a poll that ran April 15 to 21.

Yeah, those covid press conferences were dominated by media attacks. Media would not let them be about covid, had to be about Trump.

Would like to see one soon though!

“Looks like they have decided not to prop up old Joe any more. First the movement of the Reade story to the MSM, now they release polls showing a change in his support.”

I think you are correct, but who do they replace him with, someone with a chance to win?, or someone that might save the House (easy), take senate (hard).

I think their goal will be to protect the “down ticket”.
I think they are conceding 2020, and preparing for 2024.

We should too. I don’t think Pence is the answer.

Too early on Pence, I am lukewarm but not hostile too much time till 2024 many other “actors” might show upon the stage.

There was never a Biden edge.

No one in their right mind would want Biden to be President, that’s why the Kenyan from Indonesia chose him to be VP.

The “he’s ill” would seem like a workable reason, whether he collapses or not. Usually it’s more just a taking care of health in general excuse is given.

If you are not the sharpest knife in the drawer, there is not much chance you could ever DEVELOP any effective edge.

Maybe the edge of a flat Earth, where you simply fall off into oblivion.

I think there will be a backlash arising out of this COVID crap, I just don't know which way it will go. Will the public somehow blame Trump, with nonstop media propaganda telling them to? Or will the public blame Democrat Governors and Mayors for locking us all up and tanking the economy?

This poll is a good sign.

The winds have been blowing for 7 week already when the shelter in place orders.

The Labor Dept. reports that arrive starting Thursday and Friday will reflect layoffs — and hiring — that occurred as many as weeks ago.

so the opinions that people had about being laid off are already baked into these polls, for better or worse. In other words, people don’t need the government to notify them whether they were laid off, had a job, or were happy or unhappy about their wages.

The deck is so stacked against the president that I’d be ecstatic with a 2004 result.

There’s one very important dynamic at play that has been demonstrated over and over through all the years of polling and Federal elections. That dynamic is women will vote for a candidate that offers them and their family security over almost any other issue.

Recent polling on immigration and border security has shown a definite shift among independents toward the position of Donald Trump due to the Covid-19 scare. Also, economic considerations fall into the same category as women greatly value the certainty of being able to feed their family and pay their bills. Trump has a track record that is hard to compete with in regards to economic prosperity... and that is definitely a great advantage for him in a battle with any Democrat.

I too believe that Biden has never had any real advantage over Trump but, of course, it’s Yahoo and what should you expect!?!
