How China Sees the World And how we should see China
The Atlantic ^ | MAY 2020 ISSUE | Story by H. R. McMaster

Posted on 05/05/2020 8:13:06 AM PDT by vg0va3

China has become a threat because its leaders are promoting a closed, authoritarian model as an alternative to democratic governance and free-market economics. The Chinese Communist Party is not only strengthening an internal system that stifles human freedom and extends its authoritarian control; it is also exporting that model and leading the development of new rules and a new international order that would make the world less free and less safe. China’s effort to extend its influence is obvious in the militarization of man-made islands in the South China Sea and the deployment of military capabilities near Taiwan and in the East China Sea. But the integrated nature of the Chinese Communist Party’s military and economic strategies is what makes it particularly dangerous to the United States and other free and open societies.

“McMaster is nothing but a tank commander who got out of hand.”

Our Rommel, huh? LOL! Probably should have topped out at colonel. Pays to get published (he’s been doing that since he was a captain).

China should take care of their own people and leave the rest of the world alone. We don’t need them - and they don’t need us. They should build a high wall around themselves to keep freedom out and to keep their sad citizens from escaping.

Anyone who read Barbara Tuchman’s “Stilwell and the American Experience in China” written in 1970, would come to the same conclusion. It’s where my tagline came from.

China still has a score to settle with the West for the Opium Wars.

The Russians and Putin are anything but our friends. I don’t get the love for Russian by many people on this forum.

I agree with your thoughts.

I saw The Atlantic and H.R. McMaster and my eyes almost got stuck rolling back to far. Tried to read but could not, just thinking of their combined years of BS.

“Might have been nice to peel them (Russia) away from the Chinese orbit when that was in the realm of the possible”

LOL - as long as Putin is in charge, that will never be possible. He is caught up in his old KGB paradigm of seeing the US as a foe. His strategy of opposing the US at every turn is as laughable as his key allies: Iran and North Korea.

Putin’s Russia has no interest in doing anything but opposing the US at every turn.

“America was originally discovered by the ancestors of the yellow race... We the descendants of the Chinese nation are entitled to the possession of the land! It is said that the residents of the yellow race have a very low social status in the United States. We need to liberate them. Second, after solving the “issue of America,” the western countries of Europe would bow to us, not to mention Taiwan, Japan and other small countries. Therefore, solving the “issue of America” is the mission assigned to the CCP members by history.”

When I used to monitor and debate mainland Chinese on several foreign policy message boards, this is EXACTLY, the line I would get from some very passionate Chinese.

It seems silly to us, but we need to remember that the people of China have been garbling this hysterical propaganda since 1947. It is what they know, so it is their truth and their reality.

That makes it a reality we need to deal with, as well.

Which is why they will never achieve the kind of economic dominance they crave and imagine they deserve. Copiers are not leaders.

Well, we ( the USA ) are in the process of de industrialization, which is nuts. So China wins and clueless people like you don't even get it.

Exactly. That is why McMaster is a moron best left at the brigade command level. He correctly sees China as the giant threat...and then thinks the answer is MORE Chinese coming to the USA with Visas and Citizenship. With “safeguards”.

He’s an idiot.

Might be a bit too much to class McMaster in with Rommel.

“He is caught up in his old KGB paradigm of seeing the US as a foe.”

That must be why after 9/11 he was the first international leader to offer heavy aid. He gave us free use of Russian air bases to support the war in Afghanistan. When out “friend” Pakistan made it impossible to move supplies, the Russians let us ship things to Baltic ports and move massive amounts of supplies by rail to the battle zone.

Bush got along well with him. The trouble started when Obama came in and started controversy with the Russian anti-homo laws. Hillary tried launching a Soros color revolution there in 2011. Obama screwed him in Libya and staryed to do so in Syria. Then Obama launched his Ukraine plot. From that point on, Putin correctly judged that there wasn’t going to be a Bush era friendship possible.

But he isnt a KGB mastermind trying to restart the cold war. He was a lt col clipping newspapers in Dresden. That’s as backwater KGB as you can get.

“But he isnt a KGB mastermind trying to restart the cold war.”

Well, you got that right. He is a moron, caught up in the old Soviet system of alienating civilized countries and cozying up to the the rogue Iran’s, Syria’s, Libya’s and Norks of the world.

“Then Obama launched his Ukraine plot. From that point on, Putin correctly judged that there wasn’t going to be a Bush era friendship possible.”

Ahh. Your memories of the Bush years seem to forget that Bush was adamant that Putin was no longer a democrat and was embarrassed that Rusia would be hosting a G8 meeting.

This is also the period where Russia had a huge centralization of power toward Putin - eliminating the election of governers, the state took over the independent media and television, forced maverick/dissenting oligarchs into prison or exile and disbanded Parties not submissive to Putin. Sure, he was friendly.

No. Putin is harming Russia, more than harming the US, as it is really more of a nuisance, while China poses serious threats to us and the world. Yeah, they were friends.

Putin refused to pressure Iran into giving up its nuclear ambitions, seeing the rogue mullahs as an ally -that says it all. And then the invasion of Georgia. Bush and he were friends, but only one leader got rolled.

Then the Obama/Clinton Reset lol. For nothing, Putin was given concessions...no ABM to Poland and Hungary for instance.

Putin illegally annexed Crimea and sent military operatives into Ukraine.

Bush was as blind and guilty as Obama&Clinton when it comes to Putin’s Russia.
