Honestly, he didn’t think they were “that bad.” “Oh, you should see family socialism . . . .”A long long time ago I was living in Germany (the FRG) and dating a Swedish woman who shared an apartment with three German roommates. All the Germans said if given a choice they would rather move to the DDR than the U S of A. Of course, they never did either, just continued living the good life in Munich.
