Defying the stay-at-home order.
That's what non-essential employees at a prominent Silicon Valley tech company said their bosses are telling them to do.
Workers at Broadcom in San Jose said they were ordered to return to work Monday to perform jobs they believe can be done from home.
Broadcom as of Monday afternoon has not responded to NBC Bay Area's requests for comment on this story.

They’re a large company.
Oh I know. I used to work for a company that was acquired by Broadcom’s parent company Avago Technologies. The company itself is considered an “essential business” a loaded term I despise.
I suspect Intel’s fabs in CA-AZ-OR are fully staffed and have been since this thing started.
I love it!
It would be better for these over-broad stay-at-home orders to be rescinded. The people who are going to get nailed are the schlubs trying to get to work and risking the penalties, not the people who are ordering them to defy the order.
Broadcom bought out a software company my company uses daily for scheduling. It used to be the BEST tech support next to IBM I ever dealt with. Now under Broadcom (after they fired all the amazing techs that I’d worked with over a decade) it is by FAR THE WORST I EVER DEALT WITH. If it wasn’t for the fact our infrastructure was so dependent on this application, I’d change in a heartbeat. Couldn’t be less happy with them.
Listen to me you lil S.O.B.’s

Do you part to help people get back on their feet
Go to work, waste time pretending your so damned smart and have bagel for breakfast, go spend 45 minutes the Starbucks next and have sushi for lunch or dinner right behind them
Punks!
The Sonoma Chicken Coop there already closed a while ago. All those other restaurants in that arcade of buildings must be gone for good by now too.
I wish my employer would do the same..
Defy whos order? The owner of the company? Nobody has to return to work if they have a valid reason....sickness, or fear of dying?? They can take a medical or personal LOA or maybe look for another job or even go on welfare. Meantime, the owner investor who put his life savings into forming the company isnt going to let his business go down the tubes for
Snowflake fears. Lots of people want a job. Its win win win. Company makes money, workers go to work, and slackers stay home.
I really like that Vietnamese family that owns the bagel shop
Sometimes when I’m hungry I go out of my way just to get it eggs ham and cheese bagel their
The big tax dollars have to keep flowing. Little companies can be forcibly closed to show how much government cares about “keeping people safe” - since they don’t pay as much protection money.
