Don't read too much into these posturings, because that's all they are.
They're going to continue defending this senile rapist to their last breath.
But the problem is that his current strategy makes them look like unspeakable hacks and hypocrites.
They are that, of course, and proudly. But they don't like it being this obvious.
All they're really demanding is that Biden say "This woman is a liar, don't believe her" so they can echo "This woman is a liar, that's why we don't believe her." They just want Biden to throw them any help at all so that they don't look quite as bad as they do now.
All that's happening now is that the media are telling Biden, publicly, that the previous Biden/Media strategy of just pretending this story doesn't exist is not working and will not hold. The Media isn't changing its spots -- it's just asking its boss the DNC for a new strategy or for permission to implement their own strategies.

Seems to me that if the media thinks that Biden should answer questions about this, they could, you know, ask Biden some questions about that.
But they don't want to -- he might be unprepared for that and flub the answer.
Plus, they'd be attacked by their fellow lunatic liberals for practicing something concocted to look like journalism.
So they want Biden to repeat a scripted, practiced, taped and edited statement they can use as his answer.
Or to give them permission to ask him about it.

For decades the media was leftist biased though at least pretended to be journalists. About 4 years ago they dropped all pretense and started a jihad against Trump. The media has now become so corrupt and agenda driven that they are delusional. CNN is the worst with spittle spewing anti Trump invective that resembles a 24/7 version of Orwell’s Two Minute Hate. The other so called news outlets are just DNC propagandists.
The equivalent for Biden is tacitly admitting he assaults women while claiming he only hugs them in a show of support. So he might have hugged a woman in the basement once and she was going through a bad time and he was doing all he could for her. But the other people in the office didn't like her, etc etc.
At that point the media will declare that Trump and Biden were both jerks in 1993, and Trump has gotten worse, whereas Biden has learned and atoned and has done more for women than anyone in the history of the universe.
