Current and former Facebook employees who are responsible for heading off cyber attacks say the Silicon Valley giant is replacing them with machines, according to a new report.
Facebook is shaking up its security team, with the company dissolving large chunks of the team over the past two years, The New York Times reported Tuesday, citing the former employees who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak about company issues. The company is reportedly automating its alert response and security teams.
To stay ahead of evolving security threats, were investing more in automated detection and bringing in new skills as we continue to grow our security team over all, a company spokeswoman said in a statement to the Times. This also means we are restructuring a portion of our team and helping the people affected by this change find other roles at Facebook.
Facebook is hiring software engineers to build systems to replace people who previously carried out security duties, the employees told the Times. Training artificial intelligence means less reliance on people and a greater ability to scale up on detection over time, according to experts.
The company pushed back against elements of the story later on Twitter.
The changes in this report have absolutely nothing to do with the teams fighting foreign meddling. Our security team has continued to grow substantially over the last two years as automated detection increases, we shift experts to where they can have the most impact, Guy Rosen, vice president of safety and integrity, wrote in a tweet Tuesday.

Ahhh too bad
A huge part of the economy is going to be automated now. The coronavirus pandemic was a reminder of how fragile our labor market is. I tell people that the teachers who are enjoying this newfound freedom from the undisciplined student bodies are going to be very surprised when they want to go on strike later on. What is their biggest threat in a strike? Pay us more or we are gonna send your kiddies home for a couple of weeks. Oh really? We already found out what that was going to be like.
23 Apr: Axios: What pandemic prep experts have learned from this coronavirus so far
by Eileen Drage O’Reilly
(FIRST LINE, FIRST LIE) We may not have seen a global pandemic like this for the past century but that doesn’t mean we won’t see another one for another 100 years...
Background: Six months ago, 15 government and business leaders took part in Event 201, a simulated pandemic exercise presented by the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, World Economic Forum, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation...
While COVID-19 is not expected to cause that level of devastation, Johns Hopkins’ Tara Sell and Eric Toner, who led Event 201, tell Axios there’s already a lot to learn from this pandemic, and how it differs from what they had prepared for in the exercise...
What’s not working: There’s been disparate messaging between different authorities, leading to confusion and growing distrust in the government, Sell says. This has led to a void that’s being filled with misinformation in what the World Health Organization has dubbed an “infodemic.”
Leaders need to “flood the zone with true information, transparent information and accurate and timely information,” she says...

Tweet: Amazing Polly
“Flood the Zone” — this was a tactic discussed at Coronavirus Pandemic Planning exercise called Event 201.
They did not discuss health care worker shortages or civil unrest,
but they did discuss how they would spread their talking points.
NBC was a part of that exercise.

Event 201: A Pandemic Simulation
The participants included:
Hasti Taghi, Vice President & Executive Advisor, NBCUniversal Media...
Disinformation and Misinformation
Next, the participants tackle the question of intentional disinformation and accidental misinformation. They note that limited internet shutdowns are being implemented to quell panic. They worry that misinformation is undercutting efforts to control the panic. The representative from Edelman, a global PR behemoth, notes that social media companies must now step up as broadcasters and no longer just see themselves as technology platforms. They must counteract, if not flood the zone with accurate information based on partnering with the scientific and health communities. The representative of the Monetary Authority of Singapore wonders whether governments might not step up their enforcement actions against fake news.
By contrast, the private sector banker at the table remarks that it is neither practical nor desirable to shut down information, but agrees that the flood strategy is promising, capitalizing on trusted sources of information. The banker also questions whether there might be a technological answer to the problem, perhaps implying online censorship...
The Real Coronavirus Crisis
Many aspects of the Event 201 simulation ring true today. The coronavirus pandemic; new public-private partnerships; travel bans; markets in freefall; a wartime footing; and flooding the information zone with controlled messaging. That the video sponsors are now some of the central actors in the real world crisis only amplifies the simulations significance...

Based on what I read about Facebook, yes.
Yea, if they can escape their parents basement and after they learn they are not getting a 6 figure paycheck they will probably run back home.
Hopefully, the new robots will "social distance" and wear masks.
Where's boo hoo girl when ya need her?
DANG!

Thanks. I discovered Event 201 at the end of February. Considering how much correlates with Covid, i found it disturbing. Their 4th video goes over the information control. Just scroll down to Comminication Discussion and epilogue review
