Lawrence Reed lit an unknown substance on the glass of the building minutes before Gov. J.B. Pritzker gave his daily COVID-19 news conference, authorities said.
A man has been charged with starting a fire at the Thompson Center Thursday minutes before Gov. J.B. Pritzker gave his daily COVID-19 news conference in the building.
Lawrence Reed, 44, is charged with a felony count of aggravated arson knowing people were present, according to Chicago police.
Reed poured an unknown substance on the glass of the building about 2:15 p.m. in the 100 block of West Lake Street and lit it, police said.
A video shared on social media appears to show flames licking the outside of the Thompson Center. A couple of red-colored containers sit on the sidewalk.
Reed was taken into custody in the 100 block of West Wacker Drive, police said. No injuries were reported.
Pritzker and state heath officials delivered their daily coronavirus news conference from the Thompson Center about 2:30 p.m.

Because crime furthers the communist/progressive/liberal agenda.
It is interesting that Governor Fred Flintstone has not been to the state capital in more than a month. He prefers to operate from the government’s Chicago area office building rather than appearing in Springfield (a Republican leaning city in a Democratic majority state).
The building is virtually all steel and glass. Not sure what he was trying to do. I am pretty sure there is not one piece of wood not even wall paper or carpet. You can’t even smoke people out as the entire building is open. Even the stairs are are open between floors. Fire could not hurt this building.
Anarcho-tyranny is the term you are looking for.
Smolett?
For someone the size of Jelly Belly Prtizker you would need at least a 55 Gallon drum of “unknown substance”.
Fred knows the people outside of Chicago hates his guts. Look up the group “Re-Open Illinois” and read the downstate comments.
I'm on that group. I've been arguing that the protests planned for Springfield and Chicago really need to be at JB Pritzker's home located at 1225 N. Astor in Chicago on May 1st.
His address is a matter of public record, I'm not disclosing anything above that isn't easily found.
Have you read that Governor Fred has banned all veteran’s ceremonies for Memorial Day? No Honor Guard, no wreath laying, no nothing.
Not sure how he can close a cemetery that is operated by the VA - that is Federal not State.
It is unusual to name buildings after living politicians. Usually the protocol is to wait until after they are deceased, but it Thompson’s case his successor (Jim Edgar) wanted posterity to know who to blame for the architectural monstrosity.
The building has not been well maintained and it has suffered from numerous problems. There have been repeated calls to demolish it.
I had not seen that. Have you seen the review by one of the Illnois Appellate Courts which states Prickster has over-stepped his authority and lawsuits challenging him would not result in a favorable determination for him?
One downstate rep. has filed a lawsuit already seeking relief from Prickster's EO. This Illinois Appellate Prosecutor Chief is saying the EO is un-Constitutional, over-steps the Governor's 30 day emergency powers and that challenges to it will not be favorable to Prickster.
Great news - keep suing Fred Flintstone.
On the Memorial Day news - supposedly Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood has been closed to all Honor Guards and Memorial ceremonies.
That's Federal land & jurisdiction, not state as far as I know.
