It appears that Islam merely incorporated the current cultural approach and customs regarding women of that era in the Middle East.Islam is mostly derivative in general. It cribbed from the Old Testament, from surrounding cultures... there's not much original about it. But it gave a patina of respectability to these practices, and elevated them from custom to divine law. For that we are ordered to be grateful and respectful.

Either they are drugged or they have the philosophy that it will be okay because everything that happens is Allah’s will.I read some British journalist's account of attending a beheading in Iran (I think I read it here on FR) and he said they were drugged.
