I used to own a townhouse in Scottsdale. You know that there are recreational beaches in AZ on Lake Powell and Lake Mead. Just not like the one in your image.

The Rocky Point area on the Sea of Cortez in Mexico which is only about 60 miles from the Arizona border has beaches. Both Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona are under 220 driving miles to Rocky Point which is what the gringos call Puerto Penasco.

I made a trip down to Puerto Peñasco in 1976 to teach SCUBA diving to some scientists at the University of Sonora. The only motel pool in town was empty, so I had to give the elementary diving lessons in the Sea of Cortez, with that 26 foot tidal range.

The scientists were conducting aquaculture research — raising shrimp in above-ground pools. Marlon Brando was there. He came down to have a look at the shrimp, maybe set that up on his island. Mrs. Chandler got to meet him.

It was a fun weekend.
