Lysol and Dettol maker Reckitt Benckiser warned people against using disinfectants to treat the coronavirus, after U.S. President Donald Trump suggested researchers try putting disinfectants into patients bodies.
"Under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route)," the company said.
Trump said researchers should try to apply their findings to coronavirus patients by inserting light or disinfectant into their bodies.
Is there a way we can do something like that by injection, inside, or almost a cleaning? he said. It would be interesting to check that.
Reckitt said due to recent speculation and social media activity, it had been asked whether internal usage of disinfectants may be appropriate for investigation or use as a treatment.

Not to worry the Prez is the Master Troller.
And a note to Reckitt Benckiser: Considering what a cluster foxtrot the UK’s making of dealing with WuFlu, you might want not want to cast stones.
No matter what he does, the EverTrumpers defend. You are in deep doo-doo.
You’re correct, he needs to keep his mouth shut and filtered more through what is supposed to be his press secretary. My only surprise was that this was in person, and not the endless uncontrolled tweets.
It’s not like we didn’t see people hitting up the fish tank after discussions of chloriquine started. Sometimes, as a company, you have to protect yourself from the idiots of the world.
We should refer to them as the Tide Pod generation.
I am surprised that one side of his head isn’t caved in from Melania or someone in the family hitting him over the head with something for speaking before thinking. I’ve said from the beginning of his presidency that his mouth needs a governor. So we support him - we don’t have to shy away from criticizing him.
If the media, social and otherwise, are so keen on censoring speech - removing misinformation they call it - why are they blasting Trump’s comments all over the place?
No worries Lysol. Nobody has your products and many of us have found alternatives.
What we should consider injecting, though, is that TB vaccination. For one thing there is a good correlation between universal vaccination and low incidence of Covid 19 deaths. For another thing there are studies out indicating that it could lower our expenditures on healthcare since it positively affects asthmatics, diabetics, etc. after all the money we just spent, vaccinating every man, woman, child, non-binary, furry, etc would be drop in the bucket.
Totally unnecessary statement from Reckitt Benckiser. Just joining in on the mockery. British scum.
“How could he not know how it would be received given the media today?”
One, Trump has headed a huge company for years, and probably has not had a discussion with anyone during that time who did not have an IQ under 130. Now, he is surrounded by the press, and they all seem to be very average, to be generous.
Two, he has probably spoken to a large number of experts in brainstorm sessions who came up with the idea.
Wait - what? What are you trying to say?????
It better come from chocolate cows!
Lysol should have directed this to the media, everyone else was not confused.
I have seen Woody Allen drinking Woolite.
On hard surfaces, yes. Spray your counter with Clorox or any other disinfectant and you'll kill bacteria or viruses that are there. But once in the body then it's a different matter. Want to fight bacterial infection in the body? You don't use a disinfectant, you use an antibiotic. Want to fight a virus in the body? You can't, except in very limited circumstances. Viruses, like Covid, run their course.
I don't know if Trump was talking about antibiotics or antiviral drugs or whatever. But he threw out a completely inappropriate term, 'disinfectant'. A term that the whole country applies to household cleaners. So of course the media is going to jump on it and try and make Trump look like a fool. And Trump took the bait and helped them make their case.
Secondly, he absolutely did not suggest that anyone inject themselves with anything but was talking about further scientific research that could be done.
He talked about injecting disinfectants and maybe that would be worth studying. As the expected response since then has shown, there is nothing to be gained by studying whether injecting disinfectants is worth the effort. It isn't.
That is, once summer hits
You might understand the statement less than they did
If people are dumb enough to do it i’ll buy them a bottle, this way I figure everyone wins
And yet no one can sue you for misuse
Ask the dope who got injured throwing a
beer bottle off a brick wall if the brewery paid him
