Understood, but this situation (HCQ) is different from Russiagate/other conspiracies. On those, the President could directly engage the media and refute/contradict their stories. He cannot do that on HCQ since it is a medical issue, and he (or us) has no credibility on medicine. The medical establishment is against him on an identifiably medical issue, and that is a battle he cannot win, as opposed to Russia or other attacks. He cannot even attack or refute these stories like he could Russia etc.

The NIH only looked at Hydroxychloroquine by itself, not as part of a treatment using Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin, or Hydroxychloroquine, Azithromycin, and Zinc, which are what are generally being used to treat COVID-19 patients with significant, anecdotal, success.
The NIH’s argument appears to be: “We can write five million prescriptions a year for a subset of the population that is KNOWN to be at risk for ventricular fibrillation and sudden death (those with auto-immune disorders), but we won’t let you write a prescription for a COVID-19 patient from the general population who is NOT at risk for ventricular fibrillation and sudden death.”
Note, to my knowledge, and please correct me if I am wrong, no patient with auto-immune disease currently taking hydroxychloroquine has developed COVID-19.
The NIH refuses to test the combination of Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin, or the combination of Hydroxychloroquine, Azithromycin, and Zinc, because they don’t want to know the results.
They will slow roll this as long as they can because the NIH is into politics and disease, NOT health.
Now that the left has played their hand on this, I don’t think it will be too long before Trump destroys them. I’ve read enough to be confident that the combination treatment works and if true Im sure Trump has a plan for making it known.

I believe at first it was just Hydroxychloroquine. Then later he added Z-pak, then still later (by later, I mean a few DAYS) he added Zinc.
He never PRESCRIBED IT! He usually, if not always, added a disclaimer, “maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t” or “I’m not a doctor”, or “What do you have to lose” (as in, you might DIE! instead).
In ANY case, the anecdotal evidence, in favor of Hydroxychloroquine, Zpak (azithromycin (Zithromax), and Zinc, is OVERWHELMING! Why doesn’t the press report THAT!
Instead, they conflate Hydroxychloroquine with (his brother or cousin) chloroquine. They IGNORE Zinc, the actual cure, and attack Hydroxychloroquine which is just the mechanism (vehicle) that the Zinc needs to enter the cells.
They decry the combination of Hydroxychloroquine with Zpak, when Dr. Zelenko clearly states that doxycycline can be substituted for the azithromycin (Zithromax) if heart condition is a concern.
Also Z-PAK is a “dosage regimen” of azithromycin (Zithromax), NOT A DRUG in and of itself. It’s a popular dosage for a popular number of days, (since it is so WILDLY PRESCRIBED for other things (dangerous?)), “prepackaged” for the ease of the pharmacists.

Looking at the whole of this, I agree with the NIH recommendation while the interpretation of this recommendation by the press is perfectly awful and inside out of what they are saying.
Zpac (azithromycin) is the problem NIH is highlighting. It has some profound risks that in mass usage equal increased side-effect damage.
The core misinformation campaign is all about misunderstanding what Hydroxychloroquine does, how it impacts the viral reproduction process because frankly this is too deep for our American press. Takes like 5 minutes to get, and it would help Trump in their minds.. so who wants to know.
Once you get the fact that what the treatment is really about is delivering Zinc to disrupt the Viral RNA reproduction factories, then we also see that this Hydroxychloroquine is not the only game in town. Its still by wide margins the “best” game because so much is already known about it, in spite of the presses campaign of misinformation. 70 years of experience has left an amazing array of interaction data. What it doesn’t provide is a regime for dosing to support Zinc.
In a perfect world, we would have years to study this but it isn’t so. So, Dr’s have been prescribing Hydroxychloroquine as it has been for years and thats that.. there is a limit to the amount of zinc you can “safely” take in a day, and they have been prescribing that. When in doubt, Dr’s use the max and hope. You might be able to get away with half this amount, but there isn’t any data to support where the line of diminishing returns really should be placed, but if the effective dose is lower for each, then the combo is even safer.
But, the use of Hydroxychloroquine and Zpac for patients who are already in acute hypoxic distress is STUCK ON STUPID. It is how regulators have framed the usage to limit its application when the most effective time is within a day of first symptom onset. This is the hardest time to actually get Hydroxychloroquine in places like New York. And, there will be a butcher’s bill to pay for this insane government over-reach.
As a prophylactic rather than an acute treatment in the first days of COVID infection, Zinc becomes a problem as it drives out trace elements, especially Copper and you need to supplement at higher than RDA to stave of predictable ill effects. For most, the smarter course is to simply set in a reactive rather than proactive stance.
That said, Hydroxychloroquine is not the only game in town. It turns out that other compounds have Zinc ionophore properties. The cheap and widely available nutritional supplement called Quercetin is one of these. Its not Hydroxychloroquine but step back and you see that it carries a similar benefit patina being anti-inflamatory and immune system support. What it doesn’t carry is all of the glorious side-effect data that we have on Hydroxychloroquine. But, there are definite issues with many antibiotics and anything that is transformed by the liver into the “effective compound” or removed from the system by the liver. This is probably something shared by Hydroxychloroquine and why antibiotics are not necessarily wise unless you are fighting a secondary infection which justifies the additional risks and side-effects.

We should not have solved for #ICU Beds and #ventilators in our response to the pandemic without considering the net net, all-in cost of doing so including the impact on the economy and the dislocation, disruption and despair that decision is breeding among our people.
It was foolish and does not consider what is a complex multivariate problem.
We believe we have the luxury to do this and we’ll create money and disregard the very real enemies in the world this country has by taking this action.

The VA study had 368 patients, side effects weren't tracked, it is non peer reviewed and it was determined to be inconclusive.
It didn’t take long for Dr Fauci’s National Institutes of Health to trot this opinion out. And that’s all this is. It’s just an opinion.
It has seemed clear for some time, that overall, it might not be the panacea we’d hoped. That said, the drug trials we’ve seen have not been in line with what it appeared was the most effective circumstance and combination hinted at in early reports.
