An expert with the United States Studies Centre says that America is on the brink of mass civil unrest that threatens to emerge out of anti-lockdown protests now taking place nationwide.
Demonstrations against coronavirus stay-at-home measures have exploded across the country over the last week after President Trump encouraged them on social media. The National Guard has been called out in some areas to deal with potential disorder.
Speaking to Sky News Australia, James Brown, a former Australian Army officer who commanded a cavalry troop in southern Iraq, said that the very specific mentality of Americans made them much more likely to rebel against lockdown measures compared to citizens of other countries.
There is that part of the US political psyche that takes rights to a complete extreme, said Brown, adding that mass civil unrest is an ever present possibility due to Americans sharing a deep independent streak that believes the government is a nice-to-have not a must-have.

I have always drawn a distinction between the ‘civil’ and ‘uncivil’. It’s kinda obvious after all, isn’t it. What’s wrong with a little civilized protest? What government officials, and I mean individual gubbermint elected officials should fear, is protest of the uncivil variety. They should be damn scared actually. This tension should exist in our society and I believe our founding fathers intentionally wrote our constitution to allow it. It is a healthy and natural thing for a free people to do when tyranny has become the norm. Our constitution has an escalation built in - free elections, free speech, free press, peaceably assemble, petition grievances and then the freedom to bear arms. The latter is there for a purpose and it must have been on the minds of our founding fathers given that they just rebelled.
‘When the people fear the government there is tyranny. When the government fears the people there is liberty.’ Thomas Jefferson (I think).
Sounds anecdotal to me!
LOL. It is just a conspiracy theory.
As a friend used to say, “If they are worried about civil unrest, why are they working so hard to unrest us.”
Sure it is.

Spoken like a truly loyal subject of the Crown...how very 1776 of him...
To be fair, this expert hit the nail on the head, squarely

He’s obviously never been to Massachusetts.
Sheeple-fest.
What a pantload.
Oh BS.
Bump
Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice, moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.
I so much want these “experts” to be demoted to “patzers” when proven wrong. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the program.
When you the Joy Behars and the like ranting about protests, you see either fear or someone still thinking they're untouchable, or a combination of both.
Well, you either have 'em or you don't.
I took a training class with an Aussie who said most just buried them in the bush.
