Coronavirus has mutated into more than 30 strains, say scientists in China

Scientists in China have discovered more than 30 mutations of the new coronavirus, which they say may partly explain why it has been more deadly in certain parts of the world.

Researchers from Zhejiang University said they had "direct evidence" that the virus "has acquired mutations capable of substantially changing its pathogenicity".

The study was written by a team including Professor Li Lanjuan, one of China's top scientists who was reportedly the first expert to propose a lockdown in Wuhan - where COVID-19 originated.

Samples were taken from 11 patients admitted to hospitals in Hangzhou, 470 miles east of Wuhan, between 22 January and 4 February during the early phase of the outbreak.

Using "ultra-deep sequencing", researchers identified 33 mutations of the new coronavirus - known as SARS-CoV-2 - of which 19 were new.

The deadliest mutations in the patients in the study had also been found in most patients across Europe, the South Morning China Post reported.

Meanwhile, the milder strains were the predominant types found in parts of the United States, such as Washington state, the newspaper said.

One mutation found in five patients involved in the research had previously only been seen in one case in Australia, according to the study.

The researchers said the findings indicate "the true diversity of the viral strains is still largely underappreciated"

I have seen that before.

Showing that a drug works in a certain way in cell culture is a far step from showing that it has therapeutic effect in humans. It only shows that there is a potential.

I used to grow cancer cells and then kill them with bleach. Bleach is 100% effective at killing cancer cells, in fact. I would never tout bleach as a cure for cancer, though.

I think there is certainly evidence to support clinical trials of chloroquine (hydroxychloroquine). I’m not ready to advocate its use in treatment until I see the results of those trials.

You do realize the study you referenced was done in a Petri dish? IOW, no humans were involved. IIRC this study also manipulated the concentration of Zinc in the solution, something which no human being can do internally.

But, of course you know all that because this isn’t the first time I have pointed this out to you, IIRC.

Scary when you consider them ending up on a jury and having DNA evidence thrown at them.

What is natural about a virus acquiring BOTH Ebola and HIV spike proteins in an area where HIV is rare and Ebola is utterly unknown?

Are these inserts IDENTICAL with Ebola and HIV or does the 3 dimensional conformation of the protein “resemble” them? It makes a HUGE difference.

She asked why they might have tried HCQ and I gave a reason. You’re welcome.

Is there any actual published data that the coronavirus has those, or is that one of those anecdotal stories that seem so abundant these days?

Ebola and HIV have very different disease pathologies and receptor specificities than any coronavirus. The only thing I can say is that maybe some researchers noted similarities in spike protein structure and that was overinterpreted.

It was reported as HIV and Ebola spike proteins. Look it up.

In addition, there would be telltale signs of genetic manipulation if there were bioengineering. As far as I know, the sequencing has revealed nothing but natural sequences.

I’ve posted several articles here recently showing that gene manipulation done by humans isn’t always done by splicing, surely you’re aware?

I would agree with you 100%! It’s no coincidence that China has been bragging about their superiority over America. But the good news is that America is depicted in Bible Prophesy as standing with Israel against the One World Government in End Times (Revelations 12:14). So we may be down, but we’re not out!

I saw that in the article, and I looked at the pictures. “Identical Proteins” didn’t look identical at all to me. They had roughly the same shape but that was about it.

“Scary when you consider them ending up on a jury and having DNA evidence thrown at them.”

Scary that they think anything worn as a mask protects them like a magic spell and this is Hogwartz.

They wear a mask in public, take it off, put it in the center console of their cars, then wear it again like obedient dunces that think the mask magically protects them.

The communists and their fellow travelers definitely appreciate this kind of diversity.

A conveyor and a crane also look similar but do very different things. Am I surprised a protein that reacts with a specific receptor also is very similar to another protein in a different Family looks very similar to a protein that interacts with a very specific receptor in another species? Not one bit. No more surprised than to see a bulldozer looks a lot like a tank.

Now IDENTICAL is a whole different tier of “similar” and if they ain’t the same genome they aren’t identical. Lots of people making fast and lose with a lot of different claims.

Since my PhD major was Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and molecular biology is the study of nucleic acids and their manipulation, I think that I'm actually more aware than the average person of how various forms of genetic manipulation are performed. Any of them are going to leave telltale signs, even if they are not achieved by the old method of using restriction endonucleases and ligases to cut and splice the nucleic acids.

I keep stating ad nauseum that Coronaviruses mutate so often that making a vaccine is an effort with little potential for a successful outcome. Even with all of the virological technology veterinarians have not been able to make an effective vaccine against the feline, porcine, and canine coronaviruses. And if you wish to consider, the CDC had to acquire veterinary virologists to help them with research on Coronaviruses because seventeen years ago there was not one human physician or virologist studying Coronaviruses. In my humble opinion making a vaccine effective for COVID-19/Wuhan Virus is analogous to nailing jello to the wall.

From the articles I posted, scientists are able to guide gene manipulation by way of natural selection. If genes are modified by humans using natural selection, what “telltale signs” as you claimed are going to be left behind? Thanks for your informed respose.
