Want to end the quarantine? St. Louis Fed leader says universal testing is the answer

Universal testing for COVID-19 would be the best way to get the U.S. economy back up and running, St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank President James Bullard said Tuesday.

Bullard, speaking on a conference call organized by the St. Louis Regional Chamber, said closing nonessential businesses “is appropriate for now but it’s a crazy inefficient policy. You don’t really want to go back to this quarantine policy in the future if you don’t have to.”

He said that after coronavirus infection numbers start to drop, but without a vaccine available, the nation’s goal should be to get healthy workers back on the job while keeping the public safe.

“Widespread testing of everybody in the economy would put an end to this crisis,” Bullard added. “We can’t get there right now but this is costing us $25 billion a day.”

His comments come as President Donald Trump and several governors have formed task forces to talk about restarting the economy. So far, though, states don’t even have enough tests for people with known exposure to the coronavirus, let alone enough to test all workers.

Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., told the Chamber last week that antibody tests, which determine if individuals have recovered from the new coronavirus strain, should be available for some by the end of the month and more widely by the end of the summer.

Bullard compared the task of producing hundreds of millions of test kits with the process of mobilizing the economy for war. “At these kinds of numbers you really want to ramp that up at all costs,” he said. “All businesses need these tests, households need these tests, schools need these tests. Everyone needs them because they need to know where the virus is to manage this going forward.”

” what happens to people who refuse to be tested?”

They don’t get to go back to work, because what employer in his right mind would allow people to work in his business who have refused to be tested and could put his other employees and customers at a health risk?

Those other employees and customers could sue him.

As a lot of the sports owners have said, unless we can test people, we can’t let them into our stadiums or we’ll be liable for spreading the virus to others.

Ultimately, it will be private businesses who enforce testing, out of self-protection from the virus.

People will be free not to get tested - if they don’t want to work or be customers. Just like you’re free to walk around barefoot, if you mind not getting hired or not being allowed into a store. “No shirt? No shoes? Fine, but no service”

South Korea is still in lockdown particuarly restaurants, etc...

they are not testing everyone outside of big hot spots if you are asympotomic - I know I have relatives there that were told to come back later

as a homogenous Asian society, I would say they are way more disiplined than we are with social distancing, mask use, cleaniness, etc. if you break protocols, they fine the shit out of you and in some cases detain you.

Why? You afraid of death?

Why would I be afraid of death If I'm advocating opening business now? You're not making any damned sense. I have no use for Fearpers. I will not abide this lockdown anymore.

And thus my not-tongue-in-cheek suggestion that he go and see how easy it would be to get the Bloods and Crips to comply.

Taiwan isn’t.

And it doesn’t require a homogeneous Asian society to get mass testing accomplished. In the US, private businesses will tell their employees, “come back to work - as long as you’re tested.” They’re not going to put their other workers and their customers at risk.

How about opening the NFL? What’s your solution. I say let the owners buy enough machines to make game day testing possible. At least give me the option if I have the money to buy them. Only way you see sports again.
******************************************************
Can you give me a link to where I can buy the machines? I want to get right on it. ;-)

with a virus, just allowing it to be airborne infecting the herd is as effective as innoculation.

At risk elders like us could hunker down awaiting the vaccine.

But, I’m fairly convinced this is a bio release by the chicoms/elite.

They will simply do it again with something else.

It adds sense to Jesus’ words about pestilence. This would be of a different order.

Fine. Why would anyone hire you, if you refuse to guarantee that you’re virus-free and won’t infect his other employees or his customers?

But hey you’re free to tell employers that you don’t believe in being tested. They’ll answer, good for you, goodbye.

I didn’t say you needed to be Asian to get mass testing accomplished (please learn to read), just pointing out an observation.

Private companies are already like Amazon are already building their own testing labs for their employees to protect their employees , liability and keep costs down.

China already has a system for knowing who has had covid19 and recovered it’s an app on smartphones that shows a green QR code for those who are recovered and therefore immune...which now Korea, Japan and China are seeing people relapse so immunity probably is not a certainty just because someone survives. The big tech companies are already on board for an American version of this with those who test positive for antibodies and negative for the antigen would be considered immune and no longer infectious. They would get green codes and full unlimited access to businesses, venues, mass transit, work ect. People who test positive for the antigen would get red codes and be subject to quarantine as they have an active covid19 infection. People who refuse the tests or test negative to both would get yellow indicating not immune and no positive antigen or lack of antigen testing. This is exactly the passport Dr. F was talking about. Everyone with a green pass goes back to normal life. The yellows it would be up to private companies if they wanted to let at risk people in but what company would risk litigation of such magnitude I know I wouldn’t touch that with a 50 foot pole even with an air tight LLC and massive insurance. The yellows could chose to get infected on purpose then quarantine and roll the dice of survival once they have a positive antibodies and negative antigen test they are clear. Well three negative antigen tests over 48 hours was the original protocol to leave quarantine one test after two weeks without symptoms should be sufficient.

Common sense like creating a program that will require more testing materials than can possibly be produced even if we had five years to make them?”

Get real. You do it city by city, region by region, rolling it out.

You’re making the perfect the enemy of the good.

CDC and FDA are responsible for our botched testing system. Unfornately Trump has decided not to call them out. And for that reason, apparently, Freepers are defending the indefensible idea that mass testing isn’t needed or can’t be done. It’s kind of like CDC was telling us that masks don’t work - because CDC and FDA got in the way of mass mask production and reuse. These are swampsters and Trump should be calling them out as much as WHO. But for some reason he’s not, like he’s not criticizing Fauci and Birx.

Very cute. You didn’t say, but of course you did imply, otherwise you wouldn’t even have mentioned it. Anyway, I’m not going to bandy debating points with you. Testing is common sense. CDC and FDA got in the way, and because Trump for some reason refuses to call them out, freepers feel they need to defend the mess that CDC and FDA created, and say that mass testing wouldn’t be a solution.

How often do we have to get tested? Every day?””

Who knows?
How much will we have to pay for tests?
Your DNA will also get captured in these tests...make NO mistake about that!!!
Other health info can be captured in these tests.

They will have to tie me down to do this testing to me. Too many ways it can backfire against a citizen.

It’s moot anyhow because judging by the livestream I’m looking at right now from Lansing, Michigan the American people are going to stage a mass jailbreak and Herd Immunity will be a thing long before your goofy idea will ever get off the drawing board.

Do you also think it will be a Nazi policy if they get a vaccine and everyone is asked to take it? Trump keeps talking about getting a vaccine. Is he a Nazi?

Or is it only a Nazi policy to urge everyone to get tested?

What about smallox vaccinations? Is that a Nazi policy too?

By the way, please keep your distance from me, if - when tests are finally available - you refuse to get tested for the virus.
