New York City included thousands of deaths, some of which happened happened weeks ago, in its updated COVID-19 death count on Tuesday.
The newly counted deaths are presumed to be caused by COVID-19 because doctors were confident enough to list the disease or “an equivalent” on the patients’ death certificates despite the diagnosis not being confirmed by laboratory tests.
Officials added 3,778 “probable” deaths to the COVID-19 count (pdf), taking a number that would have been 6,589 to over 10,000.
The shift came after fire officials said there were hundreds of people dying at home every day in recent weeks.
Most of the newly counted deaths happened in emergency rooms or hospitals, while another 825 took place at home and 673 transpired at nursing homes, long-term care facilities, or hospices.
“We thought it was very important to portray this larger reality as more and more information was coming in,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday.
“We want to make sure that every New Yorker is counted that has been taken from this vicious virus,” added Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot.
Barbot told reporters that it would take officials “a fair amount of time to tease out” what happened with the probable cases, “if we’re ever able to do that.”
“What we won’t have is severity of underlying illness etc.,” she said.
New York state officials reported 671 new deaths on April 14, taking the statewide count to 10,834. New York City’s revised death toll is now near that total.
New York City’s Health Department said it will now count any fatalities deemed as likely being caused by COVID-19 as a death caused by the new disease, which is caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus,

Question: WHAT DID THEY DIE OF?
That is the relevant question as it involves Covid-19 numbers.
Also, how many people died at home in 2019 and 2018 before the pandemic? Have we made a determination of that?

The graph in the above site tell us that since 2003, 20% to 30% of deaths in America are AT HOME. This percentage has been increasing since 2003 !!

They found that hospital deaths are still common, but that number is declining. There were 905,874 hospital deaths in 2003 — 39.7% of deaths — and by 2017 there were 764,424 hospital deaths, 29.8% of deaths.
The number of deaths at home, though, increased from 543,874 (23.8%) in 2003 to 788,757 (30.7%) in 2017.
This begs the question — given that there were a huge number of people dying at home already, why should the fact that there are many dying at home today be “news”?
The relevant question is this -— how many of those dying at hoe for the past month died as a result of Covid-19?
The article never answered that question.
Speaking as a statistics professional, this is the right move.
it is fraud....however, they have used these same liberties before, especially during the swine flu epidemic...
So, it is right to assume all deaths as CoVid-19 related? Can you explain to us why?
They could simply add digits manually, and not bother with the rest of the process.
Can you remind yourself that this addition of digits to the death number was not a mathematical decision but a political one?
You see, the problem with lying—this qualifies all of communism and progressivism—is that it’s stupid.
