Abbott Labs Has Shipped 566,000 Rapid COVID-19 Tests To All 50 U.S. States

In less than a month, Abbott Laboratories has shipped 566,000 of its highly touted “rapid” molecular tests for the Coronavirus strain COVID-19 to all 50 U.S. states.

The effort to get the ID NOW COVID-19 test to doctor’s offices, urgent care centers and temporary testing sites like drive-thru parking lot locations is a snapshot into the massive diagnostic effort under way in the U.S. Abbott’s ID NOW COVID-19 test can deliver “positive results in as little as five minutes and negative results in 13 minutes.”

The test, hailed by Donald Trump from the White House and praised by commercial companies like drugstore chains CVS Health and Walgreens Boots Alliance, was granted the U.S Food and Drug Administration’s “emergency use authorization” less than three weeks ago amid a growing number of agency approvals for more rapid molecular “point-of-care” diagnostic tests that can be used in temporary screening locations, doctor’s office labs and nursing homes to detect the Coronavirus strain COVID-19 within a half hour.

The FDA has escalated approvals of rapid “point-of-care” diagnostics made by other companies including Mesa Biotech and Cepheid which are also ramping up production to meet unprecedented demand. In Abbott’s case, however, the company has a much broader global presence than the smaller biotech firms.

“Through Saturday, April 11, we have shipped 566,000 of our rapid ID NOW tests to all 50 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the Pacific Islands,” Abbott said in a statement. “The majority of these tests have been sent to outbreak hotspots and we've asked that customers prioritize front-line health care workers and first responders. We're currently manufacturing 50,000 tests per day, plan to increase ID NOW manufacturing capacity to 2 million tests a month by June and are working to expand beyond that.”

You are welcome.
This Abbott Labs test equipment was shown on Tucker Carlson last night.
You can see it here on Youtube. It's only 6 minutes long.

Why is Abbott the only company making them? Why aren’t we seeing press conferences like with the ventilators so that any capable company are making these things all over the country 24/7?

You're about three weeks behind on your press conferences.

A: More than 100 companies have requested and received the FDA-developed Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) template for diagnostics for this outbreak. This template will help to expedite the development and authorization of other diagnostic products under EUAs. The templates for these diagnostic testing EUA submissions are now available on our website. If you need additional information, please refer to the FAQs on Diagnostic Testing for SARS-CoV-2.

A number of hospitals are rejecting the Abbott equipment and test kits
unfortunately. The Abbott test kits are providing too many false negatives.
The University of Md. System is one. I suspect Hopkins may as well.

South Korean’s tests were very unreliable, had a high rate of false negatives/false positives, about as reliable as a magic eight ball

Many people who thought were cured (who tested negative) are now testing positive, they are looking at the testing as a problem giving bad results.

The American tests seem to be more accurate

China’s tests are garbage even worse then South Korea’s

You don’t know sh*t about Abbott Labs.
You DON’T work for U of Md or whatever the heck it is.
You DON’T have 12 hospitals.
You don’t have sh*t.
Now why don’t you slither back to the hole you crawled out of and continue writing fairy tales?

Right after you dog face.
You can always take a jump off a very high cliff, with plenty of rocks underneath.

Nope, it is “tests” not “test reading machines”:

https://www.abbott.com/corpnewsroom/product-and-innovation/abbott-launches-novel-coronavirus-test.html

And yes the US is waaaaay behind on testing...due to CDC and FDA mess ups. This should have been happening in mid-Feb..

Well, it’s about time. So more contacts can be traced, and epidemiologists will have a clearer picture of what’s going on. And we can shut the epidemic down faster and free up more economic activity.

If it weren’t done this way, the disease itself would shut more economic activity down for a longer duration.

These are rapid diagnostic testing machines from Abbott Labs for coronavirus, displayed on Tucker just last night.
4 tests an hour,
Results in just 13 minutes.
And they are ramping up production.
Watch it yourself on Tucker here.

Not to mention, for the tests in this article they are
“currently manufacturing 50,000 tests per day, plan to increase ID NOW manufacturing capacity to 2 million tests a month by June and are working to expand beyond that.”
