A 17th Ward election judge died from COVID-19 just 15 days after he worked a South Side polling place on Election Day.
Revall Burke, 60, a city parking enforcement aide who lived in the 7600 block of South Morgan, died April 1.
On March 17, Burke was assigned to the polling place at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 1460 W. 78th St.
Burke was the first city employee known to have died from the coronavirus, but his name was not made public when Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced the death on April 1.
The news reignited the debate about whether Illinois should have proceeded with the primary election after the coronavirus outbreak had been identified as a global pandemic.
At his daily news briefing, Gov. J.B. Pritzker again defended the decision to go forward with the election, saying he had no legal authority under the Illinois Constitution to do otherwise.
Jim Allen, spokesman for the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners, said the board is sending letters to all voters and other election workers who may have come in contact with Burke at the polling place to inform them they may have been exposed.
Allen said it is the fourth letter sent from the board in the aftermath of the election warning of specific instances of possible COVID exposure because of a known confirmed case of someone who either worked or voted at a polling place.

As you know, and I’ve said this before, the Governor of Illinois does not have the constitutional right, legal right to shut down the election here. It’s different in different states, we don’t have that here, so I couldn’t shut it down.
What I did do though is in the weeks before the election, I began virtually every day or certainly frequently telling people, you can vote today, early voting you can get a mail ballot today, send in and get one. We were encouraging people not to go to the polls if they could avoid going to the polls, and indeed I think that’s exactly the same thing that we need to do even more so when we get to the general election, I’m advocating that everybody should be applying for a mail ballot if they can, and that’s virtually everybody, and to vote by mail.

Yeah, I've been forgetting to ask if anyone has seen articles mentioning sickle cell as a cause of black people dying at a higher % than non-black people.
There are so many stories of people infected and dying out there. It’s hard to reconcile those with the recent spate of stories claiming many millions have been infected, there’s a low fatality rate, and the fatalities are the exception, either through poor health or bad genetic luck.

I am sorry for the family's loss but Burke's sentiment is perfectly legitimate. He made a choice to live the life he wanted to live. Not the life he was told he had to live.
Hundreds of Chicago voters who went to the polls in last month’s primary were being notified of possible exposure to COVID-19 including from a site where a poll worker later developed symptoms and died, election officials said Monday.
The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners was sending letters to voters who went to the polls at four locations throughout the city, spokesman Jim Allen said, with at least one more possible location. Either poll workers or voters who later tested positive were at those locations and notified the board. Election officials didn’t have an exact count but said hundreds of letters were being sent.
Is that the DEAD man?? If so, I would guess he might have a few underlying issues! RIP.
