Fauci: Gradual rollback of coronavirus restrictions could 'probably' start next month
The Hill ^ | 04 12 2020 | Rebecca Klar

Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Sunday that some parts of the U.S. could possibly begin rolling back restrictions put in place in response to the coronavirus as early as next month.

“I think it could probably start, at least in some ways, maybe next month,” Fauci said on CNN’s “State of the Union” when asked when the restrictions may begin to be lifted.

“We are hoping at the end of the month we can look around and say, 'Is there any element here we can safely and cautiously start pulling back on?' If so, do it. If not, then just continue to hunker down,” Fauci added.

Fauci also stressed that reentry measures will depend on the situation in each area of the country and will have to be gradual.

“It is not going to be a light switch,” Fauci said.

He added that officials will have to look at the nature of the outbreak that a region has already experienced as well as the threat of an outbreak it may not have experienced yet. The situation in New York, the state that's been hit hardest by the pandemic, will be different from the situation in Arkansas, he said.

With the exception of blue cities and blue states, the US should reopen on Monday. (Not that all of it even closed.)

IMO Fauci is a buttmunch and he hasn't bothered to look at his own loved model that shows New York coronavirus daily deaths down in the double digits in less than 2 weeks. (New York State would average about 500 deaths on the average day, year-in, year-out, oronavirus or not.)

The places where corinavirus is a serious problem are all blue cities and blue states. (And it should have been obvious to him that this was going to be the problem several months ago.)

Trump is always stroking Fauci’s ego. He is gaming him somehow. I just haven’t figured out how.

We’ve already achieved the goal of keeping hospitalizations below capacity, which is the only realistic and achievable one.

Yeah, this is really frustrating. I wish he’d keep that little creep from all future Coronavirus press briefings! Ditto Birx!

Fine then. If you want to hide out with a dead economy forever then do so. Others accept the risk and move on.

President Trump, Dr Doom has given you what you need to fire him. Totally conflicting messages one day apart. Fire this guy and say “Dr Fauci has been giving the American people conflicting information, we must be consistent with the information we give country. Confusion is the last thing we need in these difficult times. Therefore, I have no choice but to change Dr Fauci role during this crises.”. See how easy that is.

1. Some states have not done forced lock downs and forced social isolation. Businesses can and ought to consider moving there, and say so. (maybe their threats will help change pols minds).

2. The Federal government has and could only recommend. Removal of orders will come from state governments. States should consider a county by county approach depending on known infection rates and known changes thereto in each county.

4. The federal government can reopen any national parks that have been closed. States can do the same. The open air is good for people and a good break from being shut in and closed in. People visiting the parks can be told to take their own responsibility for when they think social distancing is necessary in the setting of the parks. Their choice.

5. The largest companies can afford to obtain Covid-19 tests and test their own employees; mandating positive testing employees self-quarantine for 14 days and mandating no employee can to to work if feeling ill, on penalty of losing their job.

6. Every kind of employer and business can put good health-safety practices into place in their work environment as standard operating procedures, employing masks and latex gloved hands in many places that before were not normal practice (why haven’t all food service workers been gloved - always - even at my old coffee place the couple who owned it were always latex-gloved at work).

7. The missing link across the states. While many types of businesses have been closed down, shipping-freight transportation has not, and their workers cross counties within states and cross the states. No tracking has been done of who among them is or was Covid-19 positive and where there travel routes have traversed. If there would be one industry where testing for the virus maybe ought to be mandatory, besides in education, it would be in transportation - from freight to passenger transportation.

The nation ought to be opened up. There some things that should be done different than before as it does open up and after.
