A consignment of hydroxychloroquine from India arrived at the Newark airport on Saturday (local time), according to India's Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
"Supporting our partners in the fight against #Covid19. Consignment of hydroxychloroquine from India arrived at Newark airport today," he said in a tweet.
Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump had thanked India for its decision to export the anti-malarial drug which is deemed useful in dealing with coronavirus.
"Extraordinary times require even closer cooperation between friends. Thank you India and the Indian people for the decision on HCQ. Will not be forgotten! Thank you PM Modi for your strong leadership in helping not just India, but humanity, in this fight!" the US President had tweeted.
The number of people who have died in the United States from coronavirus related complications has surpassed 20,000, according to the latest update from Johns Hopkins University on Saturday.
The coronavirus toll in the US has now grown to 519,453 cumulative cases, including 20,071 fatalities, the university was cited as saying by Sputnik.

Can they put it in the water supply?
My Indian business contacts, to a man, all believe coronavirus was released purposely by China, to destroy the economies of India, USA, and Europe.
Wuhan was their cover story. It was released in Wuhan and allowed to affect people there. It was not allowed to spread to other Chinese cities, but instead, people were then purposely sent from Wuhan to USA, Europe, Dubai/UAE, and India.
I ask for a source of this and they say its in all the newspapers ”
Bkmk.
~3,600,000 tablets plus “nine metric tons of active pharmaceutical ingredient or API required in the manufacturing of the drug.” ...
that latter must be the primary precursor, which means U.S. manufactures can make ... and 9 metric tons is 9 billion grams, and making wild assumptions about the chemistry involved, that might be enough pre-cursor to make a billion tablets ...
India has 1.3 billion people living mostly in third-world squalor with inadequate medical facilities and yet they have one of the lowest per-capita COVID-19 infection rates in the world. Why is that? Is it perhaps because everybody there is already taking the antimalarial drugs by the bucketful and they work?
Give it to everyone that needs to go to work, retired folks dont need to take it and open up the damn country!!!
I would say it is their immune systems are far stronger BECAUSE they live in squalor with no health regulations at all!! Their systems are use to fighting off a hell of a lot more than CV19!,,
Just a small fraction are taking antimalarial drugs. Usually only during outbreaks.
Invermectin seems to work as well. It is an anti parasite drug for third world countries with nasty drinking water.
Ping
9 metric tons is only 9 million grams, not 9 billion.
1000 kg = 1 ton
1000 gm = 1 kg
1000 x 1000 = 1,000,000
Kind of hard to get a proper and safe dosage that way...don’t you think?
If it were Dems in charge... .
There would be live-TV coverage of the drug arrival and police escorts to the hospitals and handing this off to them. All with running commentary by talking heads.
More like a parade of flashing lights / courier trucks & protection suit handlers.
Drama Folks !
Never waste a PR moment !
right. i was pretty sleepy last night ... also i guessed that an HQC dose was 9 gms, which is probably high, so could be as many as 2 million doses could be made from the precursor, again making wildass guesses about the chemistry ...
“Give it to everyone that needs to go to work, retired folks dont need to take it and open up the damn country!!!”
either that, or make it available to the vulnerable populations instead, which would be far fewer people, and no different in principle than using anti-malerials as prophylaxis in entire populations in maleria-infested countries ..
“right. i was pretty sleepy last night ... also i guessed that an HQC dose was 9 gms, which is probably high, so could be as many as 2 million doses could be made from the precursor, again making wildass guesses about the chemistry ...”
btw i just looked up the dose of hyroxychloroquine, and it’s 200 mg of hyroxychloroquine sulfate per tablet, which means it contains 136 mg of hyroxychloroquine (subtracting out the molecular weight of the sulfate) , so IF the precursor produces a one for one amount of hyroxychloroquine, we MIGHT be talking about as many as 66 million doses of Plaquenil ...
IF the precursor is chloroquine, then slightly more tablets; if the precursor is one of the salts of chloroquine, then slightly less tablets ...
either way, that’s a lot of tablets; the standard treatment for C-19 uses about 12 tablets, so adding that presumed 66 million tablets to the 3.6 million finished tablets India sent, that could be enough Plaquenil to treat almost 6 million C-19 patients, which would be more than enough, if properly pre-distributed into our healthcare system, to counter any second wave of C-19 infections that might result from the economic restart ...
