One of my most enjoyable driving experiences was while on vacation in Germany. Love the Autobahn!
I was once driving on the autobahn averaging an easy 100mph. Was over taking someone and glanced in my rear view mirror. Something behind me way in the distance. Eyes front again and eased past the car beside me felt no urgent need to swerve back into the inner lane again. Another glance in the mirror and the way behind car was now on my tail. I moved over and he cruised past me at least 40-50mph faster than I was going.
140 mph on the Autobahn, yeehah. That was a blast. And as someone already posted, seeing the flashing lights in the rearview mirror was interesting.
Wir fahren fahren fahren auf der Autobahn!
I was stationed in Germany near the Dutch border in the 90s. My aunt came for a visit and we did the usual touristy things in the BENELUX area. We crossed the border back into Germany and hit the autobahn, burying the needle at 135. She didnt say a word... got off my exit and she laughed at me saying: “I wasnt going to give you the d**n pleasure of screaming, but thanks for the flight!” I love that time in Germany...best assignment ever.
No kidding. Not just The Bahn, but those amazing back roads and rural driving. No wonder Germany makes such amazing cars.
Next time you're there, try driving The Ring. If you're a car guy, stay in Nurburg for a few nights.
