That’s why they’re called new diseases. Ebola, mad cow disease, AIDS, bubonic plague, smallpox, etc - each was a gamechanger when it was a new bug. Small variations, like the bugs that cause the common cold (a cousin of the Wuhan virus), are just folded into existing categories. We don’t have a 100%-effective vaccine for either the flu or the common cold because the bugs keep evolving. In many ways the mutations are different bugs, but we call them part of the flu or common cold complex because they present the same symptoms.

The developing thought it that the COVID-19 virus dissociates iron ions from red blood cells (hemes) rendering them incapable of transporting oxygen. Then it hijacks the cell through this entry point, the porphyrin. Thus the cardiopulmonary system is (in theory) operating nominally but SPO2 (blood O2) level drops as oxygen is not able to be delivered by commandeered cells with no iron. A double whammy is that freed-up Fe++ is a particularly destructive free radical and damages the lungs, heart and liver.

This could be why malaria treatments seem to cause positive response as they similarly intercept virus trying to bind to the ACE2 receptor for payload delivery.

Also, traditional viral prophylactics like zinc, and anti-oxidants agents like vitamin C would theoretically have benefit, as they would against a common cold, since that is essentially what a coronavirus is - a cold where instead of sneezes and wheezes, the side-effects are oxygen deprivation, with domino effects of cytokine storm, organ failure, and death.

Anti-viral agents and traditional cold remedies will help "flatten the curve" of virus buildup in the blood giving the body a chance to develop immunity before it stops operating from oxygen starvation. Hydroxychloroquine will aid with more advanced infection by directly interfering with the ability of virus to hijack cells; zinc inhibits infected cell replication. Vitamin C and other anti-oxidants will combat free radicals caused by virus dissociation of iron.

A corona vaccine is hugely difficult due to the rapid mutation (are you immune for this year's cold or flu because you had one in the past? no?) Just stop people from dying from the symptoms before the body's natural ability to recognize and combat the disease runs its course, and that can be done now if this theory is correct.

The push for a vaccine, home quarantine, tracking and control, digital certificates, and anything else that Bill Gates makes money from, is about something other than the health of the human species.
