Navarro Confirms Argument With Fauci Over Hydroxychloroquine

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro Monday confirmed reports of a heated argument between himself and Dr. Anthony Fauci over the weekend concerning the use of hydroxychloroquine while continuing to push for the use of the drug in the fight against COVID-19.

"If we didn't have disagreement or debate in the Trump administration, this administration would not be as strong as it is," Navarro told CNN's "New Day" host John Berman. He also confirmed the argument in a separate Fox News interview.

"Let me focus on the issue at hand," Navarro told Berman. "Does hydroxychloroquine work? That was the subject in the task force meeting this Saturday."

At the end of the day, FEMA has 29 million tablets of the drug in a warehouse, and the White House task force agreed unanimously that FEMA would start surging them into the nation's "hot zones."

Navarro added that in the New York hospitals' system, "virtually every patient" with COVID-19 symptoms is given a cycle of hydroxychloroquine.

Navarro had brought several studies to the meeting, reports Axios, but Fauci argued that they contained anecdotal, not scientific evidence.

"There are now numerous scientific studies that indicate potential efficacy," Navarro argued on Monday, adding that he'd let Fauci speak for himself, "but I'll have two words for you. Second opinion."

"What are your qualifications to weigh in on medicines more than Dr. Anthony Fauci?" Berman replied. "Why should we listen to you and not Dr. Fauci?"

Navarro suggested that CNN bring in other doctors who can speak more about the benefits of the drug, but that his own qualifications are that he is a "social scientist" with a PhD and he understands "how to read statistical studies."

Fauci is swamp. Epitome of swamp. 79 years old and Director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Disease since 1984, 36 years.

Can’t get more swamp than that. Careerist bureaucrat with a decades long fiefdom.

In this blame game liberals like to play, how can the Director of the National
Institute for Infectious Disease for over 35 years not be the one to blame?

If we want to blame people.

“Because Fauci, himself, said so in an email. Look it up.”

Do you have a link? Have you read it?

I only know of one person who has mentioned having actually read it.

I’m curious to know if others have and if their report of what Fauci said matches what this previous source says.

Even better I’d like to read it for myself as well.

Fauci has a conflict of interest.

As NIAID Director he was funded billions of dollars to develop novel anti-vitals. Over more than three decades.

If a couple generic drugs that are ubiquitous, safe, mass produced and cost 2 cents a dose work as good as anything he’s funded, what good was he and why did he not find out a cheaper alternative was available?

Argument by authority. Like calling racist.

Do you pay that little attention?

Fauci was George HW Bush’s hero. And he praised Hillary.

He’s a political careerist. Had his position for 36 years.

Anybody who has worked for any type of organization has seen it. All execs have huge egos — that’s how they got promoted. If you don’t have a huge ego, you don’t get to the top. You get there by arguing and fighting for what you believe is right. Wallflowers get completely run over.

These types of fights are held behind closed doors. When the team goes out in public, they do their best to show a unified front.

This behavior is old as the hills.

If these types of agreement weren’t happening, I’d be concerned (as you say, fill your task force with yes men). I think we all had the feeling that Obama filled his entire administration with obsequious yes men and there wasn’t a true leader among them.

Fauci was first appointed director of the NIH’s Allergy and Infectious Disease under Reagan. He’s known every President and 1st Lady ever since then at least on a social basis. Which includes Hillary.

I’ve only run across one source who mentioned having read the email in question. A decidedly Trump supporting source. And it didn’t sound like the email is the fawning Hillary loving version that we see claimed around here. I know what this source said the email is about. I want to see who is closer, that source or what is getting claimed around here.

I seem to recall the Clintons having been guests at Trump’s wedding. Trump was on a friendly enough basis with them and we could probably find him having said things that would get him denounced as a Hillary lover.

Sometimes this place imitates the Two Minutes Hate that Orwell featured in 1984. Fauci is the latest to join the Emmanuel Goldstein of the Month Club.

“Fauci: The first doctor I’ve ever seen who was completely uninterested in a cure.”

He said last week, “The good news is, in a year and a half there will be a vaccine”. They want a high number of deaths because they think it will hurt Trump.

The best and most productive project teams I have been on often have quite a bit of disagreement at times. Nothing worse than a team full of “Yes” people or “Negative Nellies”!

Yes, look it up. This info was out there 2 weeks ago. I am sure Gateway Pundit had it and it probably posted here.

Navarro is a good communicator, old school, driven to solutions. Trump likes him and counts on him. Navarro is like General Milley, “target down, move on. Next target.”

Fauci is what the Brits call a Boffin, a professional buried in his work and oblivious to his surroundings. A scientist that is hidebound by process and he can’t or won’t break that because it has served him well. He is a person not given to sticking his neck out. Ben Carson on the other hand is a brilliant surgeon comfortable with risk and stepping out of the protocol or process box when he needs to. Surgeons are like that.

Good analysis here and very accurate I think. However, I don’t think Fauci has a hidden agenda or some nefarious motive like others. He is exactly what you see - a creature of his narrow world that he has inhabited for decades. In many ways, he has become more of a bureaucrat than an epidemiologist and bureaucrats rarely sacrifice process or take chances. It goes against their grain.

This is why it is so important to have Trump in office now. He thinks outside the box and wants a vigorous debate so it is less likely he will get trapped in a bureaucratic box.

FWIW- I have been reading about this treatment for two weeks now and I think it is an answered prayer to help us recover from this assault by the CCP.

No, this is in another state and completely different company-—which I can’t state at this time. But they need to get some equipment there this week.

This is how decisions are supposed to be made. I think Trump has assembled a great team to deal with this mess China left the world. And the team is working the way it should.

Why would any public health official argue against providing this? His own stubborn pride? Because Orange Man Bad pushed for it?

Thanks. That is the letter.

What Fauci compliments her about is her recovered health.

This was a month after Hillary had a series of serious health issues. Including fainting, striking her head, and being hospitalized for concussion and a blood clot in the brain.

God forbid that a doctor should send encouragement to someone he knows. Politics should always come first.
