White House trade adviser Peter Navarro Monday confirmed reports of a heated argument between himself and Dr. Anthony Fauci over the weekend concerning the use of hydroxychloroquine while continuing to push for the use of the drug in the fight against COVID-19.
"If we didn't have disagreement or debate in the Trump administration, this administration would not be as strong as it is," Navarro told CNN's "New Day" host John Berman. He also confirmed the argument in a separate Fox News interview.
"Let me focus on the issue at hand," Navarro told Berman. "Does hydroxychloroquine work? That was the subject in the task force meeting this Saturday."
At the end of the day, FEMA has 29 million tablets of the drug in a warehouse, and the White House task force agreed unanimously that FEMA would start surging them into the nation's "hot zones."
Navarro added that in the New York hospitals' system, "virtually every patient" with COVID-19 symptoms is given a cycle of hydroxychloroquine.
Navarro had brought several studies to the meeting, reports Axios, but Fauci argued that they contained anecdotal, not scientific evidence.
"There are now numerous scientific studies that indicate potential efficacy," Navarro argued on Monday, adding that he'd let Fauci speak for himself, "but I'll have two words for you. Second opinion."
"What are your qualifications to weigh in on medicines more than Dr. Anthony Fauci?" Berman replied. "Why should we listen to you and not Dr. Fauci?"
Navarro suggested that CNN bring in other doctors who can speak more about the benefits of the drug, but that his own qualifications are that he is a "social scientist" with a PhD and he understands "how to read statistical studies."

Mathematics and its distributional cousin Statistics are the universal languages of all sciences.
But Statistics is similar to legal theory, to make a case, to introduce admissble evidence, to test, to make efficient use of data and time, and so on.
A high level credential with heavy training in Statistics can mingle, consult, collaborate, coauthor with any scientist, any MD. In fact, NDs rely exclusively on Statistics experts for their studies and trials.
MDs, however, have the authority to call a trial before its complete based on overwhelming evidence. They are allowed this in special circumstances because the alternative would harm people and their oath is to “first do no harm”. They carry liability.
Many studies of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ)-Zinc/Z-Pak start out as randomized trials professionally designed by expert statisticians but the trials are abandoned because the doctors see positive results so clear, so consistent, so overwhelming as in 99% success rate, that it would be malpractice to continue the trial and not go all in with the treatment. That’s what’s been happening.
I can tell from experience that Fauci has picked up lingo but is not telling us straight. It’s either because he’s really a second or thrid stringer who rose up the ranks by mastering how to kiss ass, or he gets all tingly with Bill Gates, the Clintons, and that crowd. I believe it’s the latter.
I hate to promote divisiveness because I know POTUS is working hard to present a united front but at some point MDs need to put their big boy pants on and say “enough of this sh*t!”, then go all in with the HCQ cocktail.
You have to ask yourself why would Fauci oppose using something that CDC itself knows to be effective since 2005. Why would he insist on months of trials when people are supposedly dying right now, except for the ones receiving chloroquine.
None of the possible answers give you any reason to have faith in Fauci’s judgement.
But when Fauci goes on every network and makes statements such as: there is no proof that HCQ works, someone else in the administration has to set him straight. And they have to do it in public to counter his opinion.
Why did they call you?
Navarro is a good communicator, old school, driven to solutions. Trump likes him and counts on him. Navarro is like General Milley, “target down, move on. Next target.”
Fauci is what the Brits call a Boffin, a professional buried in his work and oblivious to his surroundings. A scientist that is hidebound by process and he can’t or won’t break that because it has served him well. He is a person not given to sticking his neck out. Ben Carson on the other hand is a brilliant surgeon comfortable with risk and stepping out of the protocol or process box when he needs to. Surgeons are like that.
Fauci is probably just itching to find that one patient who has a bad outcome or some long term effects that can be attributed to the Hydrochloroquine / Zinc / Doxycillin / Zithromiacin treatement so he can say, “I told you so. See how right I am?” He hopes he should live so long.
“Fauci has his own agenda, for him having a cheap cure would not be beneficial to big pharma.”
Big pharma is the donor class. Why would he want to hurt them? This might force them to make a cheap drug instead of their expensive ones, more profitable one? Maybe this is what he is fighting about.
“
Fauci can give them love and understanding while Navarro gives them Hydroxychloriquen”
From weeks ago:
“If you’re a doctor listening to me right now and a patient with coronavirus feels like they want to try that,” Stigall asked, “and you’re their doctor, you’re not Anthony Fauci the guy running the coronavirus task force, would you say ‘alright, we’ll give it a whirl’?”
“Yeah, of course, particularly if people have no other option,” Fauci said. “These drugs are approved drugs for other reasons. They’re anti-malaria drugs, and they’re drugs against certain autoimmune diseases like lupus. Physicians throughout the country can prescribe that in an off-label way. Which means they can write it for something it was not approved for.”
They have to start giving the HCQ and azithromycin and zinc earlier in the course of a patient’s disease. If they wait until the patient is gasping his last breaths, it might be too late. Ideally I’d like to see everyone get a prophylactic course.
Question is who leaking again to the press? Fauci or another whistleblower inside the camp?
Sisolak has no medical training, no science background, but he knows how to spew the leftist talking points.
This ahole democrat governor tweeted back to POTUS “listen to science, listen to the scientists” which indicates he’s getting his message script from democrat progressives who wouldn’t know science if it smacked them in the face. But they know or think they know how to sound ‘virtuous’ to the dumbs and dumberers.
Bill Gates all he talks about is the vaccine, how a vaccine is the ONLY way to cure this..gee I wonder how many billions he would make off a vaccine
“There is no reason Fauci cant just say that he is bound to rely on proven facts, but, until the facts are in, lock, stock and barrel, the promising new approaches should be considered. And Navarro can aggressively suggest just that.”
You have it right.
HCQ looks promising from anectdotal reports and a few non-double blind studies but that’s not what medical types like Fauci can use in order to label it a cure. That doesn’t prevent others from trying it.
There’s also been cases with other viruses where HCQ has actually made the situation worse, something which isn’t being widely reported. Healthcare workers know about this, they have to stay informed both legally and out of self preservation. Too early to know if this could happen with Covid. I know one who now has Covid and won’t take it. She’s been on the front line in NYC since this started.
“Fauci is a Hillary lover,”
And you know that how?
You make a point.
No such thing as double-blind studies in a pandemic. Who would you put in the control group? What are the ethics there?
That’s what is so slimy about Fauci - he knows this. He’s counting on the public NOT knowing this.
I really like your comment. It shows great experience and insight.
> “Fauci is probably just itching to find that one patient who has a bad outcome or some long term effects that can be attributed to the Hydrochloroquine / Zinc / Doxycillin / Zithromiacin treatement so he can say, I told you so. See how right I am?
To which Donald Trump (or Navarro) should respond “that’s anecdotal. as in 1 in 10,000.”
It amazes me that the left wants a global society and the global society found a way through their testing to help patients then the left does not believe the results.
That wouldn't be a problem if it was a Democrat President dealing with this, but we all know that this came to light because it's Trump, and his Task Force. Somebody apparently leaked this to the media, and from what I've heard of Dr. Fauci, I wouldn't put it past him to be the leaker.
Your phrase for the day, Dr. Fauci, is "stopping clinical trial for benefit".Bring Out Your DeadI'm sure you know what that means, and that the risk WITH NEW DRUGS is that despite clear clinical benefit, there is a danger that the NEW DRUG may have unexpected long term side effects.
I'm going way out on a limb, Dr. Fauci, But I'm going to assert that a drug that has been in use for 50 years doesn't have much in the way of unknown side effects...
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old farts life, it's worth it.
New York has been using HCQ on thousands of patients and, lo and behold, their numbers across the board have dropped a lot.
