Excluding Taiwan from the WHO is a political and medical outrage

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday endorsed observer status for Taiwan at the World Health Organization, pledging that he and the State Department will “do our best” to advocate Taiwan’s participation in WHO meetings. With the death toll from the coronavirus pandemic approaching 40,000 and climbing steeply, Taiwan’s involvement in the world’s foremost public health agency ought to be a no-brainer — not just because the island is home to 24 million people but also because it was one of the first to confront the new disease and has been highly successful in fighting it.

The regime in Beijing insists that Taiwan is not a true country but merely a renegade Chinese province not entitled to membership in any international organization. In recent years, Beijing has demanded that Taiwan be denied even nonvoting status in the WHO.

I long for the day when someone asks a question about the World Health Organization and the response is "who"?

I got an idea. Why don’t we just exclude the WHO. Taiwan is an ally, and if we had spent a bit more time listening to our allies on the other side of the Pacific Rim - Japan, Taiwan , HK, South Korea, we might have better known what was coming. They knew it was an epidemic and didn’t trust the CHICOMs. Our elite at State and in the so-called intelligence community listened to the CHICOMs. I am sure the party bosses in Beijing have a grand old laugh about that.

Actually, it probably SAVED Taiwan, as they were forced to rely on their own (numerous) sources in China to figure out what the hell was going on and how they needed to respond to it.

Their population is 23 million, and their new caseload is about 20 per day, and they’re now exporting excess masks around the world - so I’d say they’re doing quite well, without the WHO spouting Chinese propaganda to them.

“Don’t trust China; China is asshoe.” Taiwan approves this message.

Red China just showed the World how it intends to use the WHO.

Depending on Red China for healthcare looks like a sure way to death.

I feel badly for Taiwan and Hong Kong, to be left to the tender mercies of the “Sick Man of Asia.”

Their population is 23 million, and their new caseload is about 20 per day

And all of the recent cases here are from people coming back into Taiwan from infected countries. 99 % of the cases of spreading are all from within a family. There ahve been aprox 290 cases with only 1 death ( that was a cab driver and chances are he was a heavy smoker. He is also the one case that was not connected to a family )
