HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Leaders with Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam say there are COVID cases at the intallation, but the Pentagon says military operations cannot publicly release specific numbers to protect operational security.
Are there any Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam service members that are sick with COVID, the answer is yes. Until recently we were providing that information, said Capt. Jeff Bernard, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Commander.
They also said the RIMPAC exercise with 25-thousand of military personnel and about two dozen nations is still on for July and August in Hawaii at least for now.
RIMPAC is on. RIMPAC is going to happen absolutely positively until you read publicly it is not. Once big Navy decides whether or not it's going to happen, you will hear about it in the open press," said Capt. Bernard.
The U.S. Coast Guard also confirmed a Coast Guard member assigned to the Coast Guard cutter Midgett tested positive Wednesday. A news release says the member was not aboard the cutter and has been self-isolating since March 24. The Coast Guard is under Homeland Security so its not under same secrecy rules as the Pentagon.
Bruce Anderson, the director of Hawaii State Department of Health, told Hawaii News Now that the militarys reported cases are included in the state numbers.
Meanwhile, Council member Kym Pine is urging the military to continue to report as much as possible.
We have residents who work there and very large numbers so we need to know as a city and state what we can do to respond to the situation because it helps us to understand where the clusters are happening, where the unsafe situations are happening, said Pine.

Are they hinting there's something nefarious?
After the Roosevelt incident military matters are, and should, be handles with stricter security protocol.
Why would we broadcast to our enemies the health of our troops???
No “a need to know basis” and we dont need to know
That information needs to be CLASSIFIED. It could possibly help our enemies.
(Which of course means the media will want to disseminate this as far and as wide as possible.)
Wow, we have a lot of traitors in this country and half of them are in the media.
Good. It was bad enough that our enemies learned from our own media that one of our capital ships was rendered mission incapable.
These matters should be handled with strict security at all times so enemies dont know the disposition of our strategic assets.
They should be keeping such information quiet. It has to do with operational readiness. We don’t want our adversaries to know what the impact is on our military. Common sense.
See post number 4. I agree. Don’t broadcast your weaknesses to the enemy.
I can understand why they would. You dont want your enemy knowing you are unprepared. And in the military every day is a dress rehearsal for war.
Really Doctor? 100%? Can you show us the results of your research?
What appears so obvious to FReepers is a mystery to the media.
On a similar note, a soy pod named William Arkin has a piece at Newspeak, in which he appears puzzled by the military, treating almost as an anthropologist might look at a newly discovered group of isolated natives.
This quote from that piece just summed it up for me:
“But Crozier’s firing is also an opportunity to learn that the military operates by its own set of rules, enforcing strict discipline and order, precisely because it is the military.”
None of these soy-based creatures in the media seem to even know anyone who’s ever served in the armed forces.
Good. Loose lips etc...
agree,we did not hear half the Chinese military was down sick...not a word but you knew it happened.
If you happen to get COVID-19 in your system and treated with Hydrochloroquine or Chloruqine, you'll already get antibodies to fight off the virus, you won't be infecting others near you because of herd immunity. I am a doctor? Take your wild guess.
