President Donald Trump said Thursday his administration will soon release nationwide recommendations on wearing face masks after initially telling Americans they weren't necessary to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
But a top health adviser on his team strongly cautioned that masks should not lull Americans into a false sense of security that would lead them to abandon social distancing guidelines.
Speaking at a White House task force briefing, Trump said the new guidance would stop short of requiring all Americans to wear face coverings.
"I don't think they'll be mandatory because some people don't want to do that," he said, adding that Americans who do want to wear face coverings can "decide for themselves."

The rabbit-hole is made of Teflon and all greased up.
I was in America then.
I did not see another country’s preparations.
Now I am just saying.
Very, very early in this crisis, America and Vietnam literally had the exact same amount. I believe both countries had 32, or something like that.
Vietnam mobilised the country. I know, we also did. Sort of.
Now Vietnam has 204, America has 204,000. Part of the reason, is that Vietnam was prepared. EVERYONE here has had a facemask, forever. Immediately, poof, everyone had one on. Months ago.
I understand America is different. But I think we were unprepared.
It is a little bit embarrassing, frankly.
I firmly believe that anybody who has developed adequate immunity and has stopped spewing the virus should be allowed to roam freely.
Maybe we need some testing to be able to open up the Economy?
And they don’t fit correctly, you will keep readjusting and inadvertently touching your face.
Goggles.
I bought some, early.
“ANY TIME they are in public.”
You can wear one for me.
Try to get one.
LOL!
LOL!
I and my wife have been.
For three months.
Everywhere.
If I can find the study, I’ll share it. Even a standard surgical mask drops your likelihood of catching respiratory and flu viruses, making you 62% less likely to catch it. If everyone, or even most people, wore one, the spread would drop quite a bit.
I am surprised how many people on this site are comfortable with and happy to demand authoritarian solutions to issues.
I have not been wearing them.
But I have them, just in case.
“I and my wife have been.
For three months.
Everywhere.”
I’m happy for you. Not doing it. I’m healthy. I’m not a threat and that’s the position of Singapore’s health minister. They handled it better than most.
Authoritarian?
Or common sense?
People think they dont have to keep social distancing when wearing a mask, I think it gives them a false sense of security.
+ + +
I think that people who are taking the precaution to wear a mask....are also the ones who will social distance/keep space apart, from others.
No more 4th Amendment. Many here believe the government should be allowed to demand you submit to a swab or other action to retrieve fluid from your lungs before you are allowed to go about living your life. Don’t want to submit? That’s ok, you’ll lose your livelihood.
I think if you went to Singapore right now, everyone would be wearing a mask.
I don’t know that, but I believe that is true.
Ready to hear your solution.
“keep you from spreading it, it wont keep you from getting it”

Please explain how particles can move in one direction, but not the other.
Thanks in advance.
