Here are some facts:
The actual mortality rate of Covid-19 is UNKNOWN, because the actual number of infections is unknown.
The reported mortality rate of Covid-19 is grossly OVERSTATED, because the denominator only includes confirmed cases, which represent only a small fraction of actual cases. For every one case thats been confirmed, there may be hundreds or even thousands, who have been infected, but whose symptoms are either nonexistent, or are indistinguishable from allergies, a cold or the flu.
Basing the mortality rate of Covid-19 on confirmed positives, is like basing the mortality rate of the common cold on confirmed colds - hardly anyone goes to the doctor for a common cold!
This scary mortality rate you alarmists are touting is being revised downward as we speak.
“The actual mortality rate of Covid-19 is UNKNOWN, because the actual number of infections is unknown.”
The exact same fact can be stated of the flu. Every year.
The vast majority of cases are never counted, but estimates abound.
You’re correct that the denominator is understated, but we need antibody testing to approximate the total number of cases. It’s not available yet so we have to work with the data we have. It’s still likely the mortality is much higher than the flu. There are probably millions of mild flu cases that aren’t captured in statistics either.
We were told that as testing surges, the mortality should go down, but the opposite has happened. If it’s a hospital resource problem, then it’s important to continue efforts to flatten the curve.
