Coronavirus can't stop border wall

The coronavirus has shut down much of the country, left Capitol Hill a ghost town and even sidelined aircraft carriers. But it hasn’t been able to dent construction of the border wall.

Since the virus was first detected on U.S. soil in January, the government has completed about 40 more miles of border fencing, according to Border Patrol data, with more than half of that coming since early February, about the time Mr. Trump announced a second wave of cash was being funneled from the Pentagon toward wall building.

And acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf, amid his virus duties last week, signed off on six waivers to speed wall construction in sections all across the boundary line, and contracts were announced for new segments of the wall.

“Border security is national security,” said Rusty Payne, a spokesman for Customs and Border Protection, who said construction remains on track to meet the target the president laid out. “We have completed 142 miles of new border wall system and we have another 197 miles under construction. In addition there are 414 miles in the pre-construction phase. We remain confident we will have 450 miles completed by the end of 2020.”

On the contrary, it makes it all the more necessary.

And the border wall will protect people on both sides. Weakening the cartels which harm people on the Mexican side of the border just as much as our side of the border if no more so is obviously a benefit not just the U.S. It’s disgusting the Left turns this into a racial issue.

Work that was underway has continued.

This week, a “modification” was issued to a contract in the Tucson Sector, that added more than a half billion dollars of more work, to an existing contract. That should be at least 25 more miles of top of the line Border Wall System, locked in.

Although it technically remains in the “pre-construction” phase, until ground is broken, it is really a big step legally and financially.

The great thing about putting new work on a mod rather than a new award is the shorter start up time required. The vendor (SWVC) is already set up there and operating, so it is more of a ramping up of existing activity, than a whole cold start.

By Summer, just that mod should be adding another half mile per week to our rate of construction, and a flood of new awards are still working their way through the pre-construction process. Another $3.6 billion dollars (FY20 Military Construction money) was also announced to be heading into that pre-construction pot, on top of the over 400 miles that is already reported.

The republicans should have stuck border-wall funds into the stimulus bill.

We’re going to send millions of Mexicans south to their country whether they have Wuhan Flu or not.

”The republicans should have stuck border-wall funds into the stimulus bill.”

Most Republicans in Congress are really against the wall. They had their chance to support the Trump border Policy from January 2017 to January 2019 when they controlled both houses of Congress. It wasn’t a priority for them.

The border wall should be stopped immediately. That money is desperately needed for the Kennedy Center! /s
