That would be unfortunate.
The death rate for COVID-19 patients on ventilators is 85%-90%
Ventilators are basically irrelevant.
Antivirals such as Remdesivir or Hyrdoxychoroquine (or any of 50 other medications under investigation) are the better bet. Plasma transfusions from recovered patients may be another good bet. We must find ways to prevent the ARD cascade in vulnerable patients.
The obvious slow-walking of these research activities by Democrat governors and Federal bureaucrats should be a very hot campaign issue.
A vaccine may be available in anywhere from 18 months to never. Not relevant now.
The plasma transfusion look promising but can’t harvest the plasma until 14 days after recovery. East coast only started cooking about two weeks ago
Early and forced pulmonary toileting before the vent stage is reached. Large dose mucolytics and expectorants to break up phlegm. Move and cough or lay still and die.
They may have to bring back “temporarily” breathing treatments that are iodine based(yes they can screw with your thyroids but we have better meds to treat that now). They cut thru phlegm better than anything and the iodine is bacteriacidal and virucidal.
