This is the hatred of general humanity built into the environmentalist movement. That humanity is inherently evil, and the world is a paradise ruined by them. That most of the masses must die to create paradise, so the sacred animals can live in innocence and peace.
And when you hate the average person that much, just like members of some hated group, it makes it much easier to kill them or just let them die.

They’re probably related. Animal rights is a religion that views humans as profane and nature/animals sacred. They don’t really have any leeway for what’s normal in humanity. That means humans and any and all animals associated with them (read domesticated animals) should be separated from nature and allowed to die.
