Calling it “the Chinese virus” is political.
Calling it the China coronavirus is imprecise, but valid.
Calling it the Wuhan Coronavirus is fully in keeping with norms - the Chinese just don’t want any reference to anything they are responsible for mentioned.

“Science” magazine does not understand geopolitics, nor do they know how to deal with a communist regime, because most of them probably love communism. “Chinese virus” is Trump calling out the commies, like a gunslinging cowboy of the Old West calling out the bad guy. He needs to offer his resignation. Because of his leadership the CDC was totally unprepared for this or any other new virus to come down the pike. His agency dallied on producing a working test kit and then he dallied on getting a mass production in place.

The interview in itself was uncalled for.
Yes. This needs to stop and stop now. Everybody wants to say we're in "wartime". How would it look during a war if a colonel went out and did interviews about the general who is guiding the attack? About what goes on and how the general behaves in the war room?
The colonel needs to advise the general to the best of his ability, allow the general to draw his own conclusion, and then STFU and follow orders.

There are many brilliant, less politically connected than Fauci, scientists that would do nicely on Trump's COVID 19 team.

I would not fire Fauci, but he should be moved quietly to the side if he cannot realize that being a team player doesn't mean he has to compromise his scientific views. He needs to carefully weigh the impact of his statements.
