Might it be related to projections based on this video that compares COVID19 with OTHER pandemics. The beauty of the video is that rather than comparing numbers blindly (eg comparing total deaths from, say, Swine flu, which ended, versus COVID19, which is still ongoing and thus the numbers are still relatively low), the video instead starts ALL of the pandemics on the same date (rebases them) and then sees how they progress.
