I generally agree with Tucker Carlson, but I disagreed the other day when he seemed to be defending panic-buying because "your obligation is to protect your family first." But panic-buying is not the same as taking precautions to have emergency supplies on hand BEFORE an emergency so you DON'T have to engage in panic-buying.
Panic-buying says "Me first, and screw everybody else." Precautionary buying harms no one else, and might even give you a surplus with which to help neighbors, friends, or relatives.

What people should be doing is being in surplus, along the way, and rotate product on hand so they assurance of freshness of product.

If you buy well ahead of the curve, like a good third of the FReepers active on the virus threads in January, you not only avoid the panic buying but you also don’t buy what you normally would at that time and may possibly have caused the supply chain to expand slightly at the key time.

Exactly. I did my prepping in February.

Lot of people are going to change their life style after this.
This might be one of those unintended consequences you hear about.
A lot of people are going to start making sure that they aren't caught completely flat footed again like they were this time.
I'd think that is a good lesson to learn. The governments around the world have spent the last 75 years trying to make their populations less self sufficient and more dependent on the government.
Events like we are experiencing now go a long way toward getting people to start thinking right about who's responsible for your well being.

There’s probably 8 to 14 months worth of food and and necessary ingredients to make pasta, bread, and other stuff in my pantry right now.
Haven’t been shopping in about 5 months, don’t need to.
Do all my own canning and dehydrating of vegetables, fruit and meat.
Don’t like going to town and do it as little as possible.
