BINGO! Whoever is in charge of the messaging on this needs to be taken to the woodshed. The panic is there largely because people are not confident that they're being told the truth.
Younger and relatively healthy people have a low risk of serious illness. That is true. So they tell us to go about our daily business, only to turn around a week later and close all bars, restaurants, and cancel all gatherings of 50 or more. (that little nugget BTW dropped by the CDC after yesterday's briefing where they just said nonchalantly that "there will be new guidelines". Yeah, the new guidelines are basically to lock down the country).
The markets plunge this morning and then Trump sends out a cryptic tweet, God Bless the USA. To the marginally engaged average person out there this all looks really, really bad.
Trump desperately needs to get on top of panic control as much as virus control.
