You're right about all that, but the Europeans are more hysterical than the Americans. The US news media is whipping up the panic into a frenzy, and for the reason you gave, but that's not the only reason for the panic.

Last Friday, I visited two friends from France living in the US. They were in abject panic about the coronavirus. They get their information from Europe. They're convinced that the Black Death is upon us and that President Trump is personally spraying everyone with the virus. They very politely suggested that I not come back to visit until this blows over. I think they shoved the furniture up against the doors after I left.
