LOL. My father was working on the Virginia coast when Pearl Harbor happened. Everyone was told they must have blackout curtains on their windows if they wanted to have house lights on after dark. That was to prevent light from exposing freighters to lurking U-boats.
Who knows how legitimate that was. But everyone complied. No one whined about it.
