The government instituted rationing during WWII, so while they may not have taken over the means of production as Hitler or Stalin did, they took control of a lot by controlling the customers.

I think I am going to purchase some home defense items this week.

Those items may save your life and those of your loved ones. Toilet paper ... not so much.

““ The feds did regulate the production of autos,””

I can read, but that wasn’t what you stated, which I still can’t find (You stated: “I wrote that auto production was halted by order of the feds”).

If you can’t even quote yourself and lie about what you just wrote, why should I believe a damn thing you say about anything.

Lie? I didn’t lie. The United States declared war on Japan on December 8, 1941 and on Germany three days later. The government quota for autos and light trucks in January of 1942 was over 100,000 automobiles and light trucks. The car stockpile when production ceased was 520,000 units.

In the late 1944 Ford, Chrysler, Nash, and Fisher Body of General Motors got the okay to do preliminary work on new models of civilian passenger cars, on condition that it not interfere with war work.

That’s regulation. The government didn’t oust management, run the plants, order materials, or hire the workers, They contacted for what they needed. Just like today.

You’re still wrong and obfuscation won’t change the facts,

Of course they did. I saw some of parents’ old ration coupons when I was a kid. That’s not the issue.

Did you read my post 38? It’s stated pretty clearly there.

“In May 1945, the War Production Board authorized output of 200,000 new cars in the fourth quarter.”

https://www.autonews.com/article/20111031/CHEVY100/310319970/no-new-cars-but-that-didn-t-stop-u-s-automakers-dealers-during-wwii

So the government board that was REGULATING auto companies changed the rules while combat with Japan was still ongoing. Again, the feds didn’t go into Willow Run and order Ford employees to retool. Ford management made decisions on how they implemented new production.

But...but if Biden/Sanders or whoever other than Trump wins the election...they won’t let it go.

That’s the real danger in doing all this just before an election.

I know, that’s why I hope we get through this quickly, even if painful in the short term, because if it drags out, then we may really get to CW2.

yes, trying to blame this on Trump for not preparing for a pandemic when in actuality he should have inherited those preparations from previous presidents. Not just Obama, but Bush as well.
