He should have been training his soldiers instead of doing the cocktail circuit with the Munich chattering class.

It was an international conference of senior Army leaders held in the same city near his headquarters.

I spent 32 years in the Army, when you are training soldiers, the last person you need around are senior generals. Generals don't train anyone, NCOs do.

When I was a battery commander, I spent too much of my time intercepting various Colonels and general officers who wanted to come out and see training. Cool, you want to see training? Great, stick around for 10 minutes to see that my battery was not dorked up. Once you see that we know our s--t, get off my training site, my NCOs need to focus on training soldiers.

Drop 50, Very well said. My first 6 years in the Army were in FA, 13E & 13F.

Desert Rhine: Wiesbaden, where the conference was held, is the current location of the Headquarters, USAREUR & 7th Army. It was moved there from Heidelberg around 2008-09. Also Wiesbaden is a few miles northwest of Frankfurt am Main. Additionally, the distance from Wiesbaden to Munich is 263 miles or about 4 hours driving time on the autobahn.

For those interested, the USAREUR Commander is Lieutenant General Christopher Cavoli.
