Unless the equipment is scrapped and the workers brainwashed, doesn’t the capability still exist, albeit with some lead time to restart?
Why not drill, pump and store in the strategic petroleum reserve? Wonder when the last time that was topped off?

You don’t just start up again overnight. A healthy $50-$60 per barrel ensures domestic production continues and we pay a reasonable price for gas. Lower oil prices aren’t necessarily good
