Thursday on MSNBC's "The Eleventh Hour" with Brian Williams, New York Times Editorial Board Member Mara Gay and the host accepted without question a tweet that (jokingly) said that Michael Bloomberg could have given every American one million dollars with the five hundred million dollars he spent on his short-lived presidential campaign. In reality, $500 million divided by 327 million Americans is about $1.53 per person.
"When I read it tonight on social media, it kind of all became clear," Williams said.
The tweet read: "Bloomberg spent $500 million on ads. The U.S. Population, 327 million. He could have given each American $1 million and have had lunch money left over."
"Its an incredible way of putting it," Williams said.
"Its an incredible way of putting it," Gay said. "Its true. Its disturbing."
The twitter user they cited has since made their account private, after perhaps the most successful instance of trolling public figures in positions of authority in history.

I guess math really is hard!
lol...these are the morons that think they know so much more than us “little people”.
Math is hard.
Dear Lord, what idiots!
So know we realize - once again - that this is how MSNBC and the NY Times (among others), report news these day...
They go onto social media, find some opinion they agree with and report it out as fact to the gullible public - with ZERO fact checking; if fits the narrative, it is simply reported as fact.
This would be funny if this wasn’t so sad.
It can’t be said enough... Stupid is, as Stupid does.
What absolute morons.
Our population seems so much smaller than I thought. Hmmm.
Williams was talking about Venezuela dollars, which is the plan for the US..Sanders and Biden want to implement the “million for all program”. Everyone will be a millionaire soon..(which might buy you a cup of starbucks coffee).
Perhaps he could have given 1 million to each person who actually voted for him!
You could go take all the Americans on the Forbes to 500 richest people list... confiscate ALL of their money ... divide it up between 320 million Americans. How much would we all get? Not enough to live on for one year... yet somehow this is going to solve all problems according to Bernie.
Man oh man they are dumb.
I'm certainly no expert but I could help prevent 90% of their mistakes by striking 90% of their material.
It would have been only a half a million if half of the population was not killed by gun violence in the past 10 years like Biden said
Teen Talk Barbie is all grown up, and “Math class is hard” still.
An average person not really paying attention could be forgiven for saying “yeah! That’s right!”.
These people are paid millions to pay attention...
100s of homeless veteran villages could have been constructed with the money wasted. Instead we have to watch boring political BS commercials?
