World Health Organization director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Monday that the “stigma” surrounding coronavirus was “more dangerous” than the illness itself, and advised people to “calm down.”
“Stigma, to be honest, is more dangerous than the virus itself. Fear and panic are dangerous,” he said, as reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune. “It’s fine to be concerned and worried, but let’s calm down and do the right things.”
Officials were optimistic about the global effort to contain the spread of the illness:
Of the 62 countries affected by COVID-19, 55 have fewer than 100 cases. Only four countries have more than 1,000 cases, Tedros said.
WHO officials said it is rare to see a respiratory pathogen like this virus that can spread widely in the community but can also be contained. The flu cannot be as easily contained, officials said.
“That offers us a glimmer, a chink of life that this virus can be suppressed and contained,” Mike Ryan, who runs the agency’s emergencies program, said in a briefing Monday.
The number of deaths in the U.S. continues to climb, but remains in single digits, as officials grapple with the twin tasks of containing the virus and reassuring the public.

But it’s an election year. Never let a crisis go to waste? Democrats couldn’t manufacture a decent crisis in the last three years, now they have something to work with. The media can treat every virus victim like a personal attack by Trump. It’s a long shot for the democrats, but it’s all they got.

My understanding is that wearing a mask won’t protect you because the virus is small enough to go through the mask. It cab also enter through gaps in the mask.
Putting the mask on the infected person is, as you said, their best use. Even that will reduce and not completely eliminate the virus getting out.

The places where everyone is wearing a mask, every single day, seem to be improving.
Is there any truth to, the allegation seems was maybe made in South Korea, that the “church” in which the terrible outbreak is reportedly happening, was opposed to members wearing masks?

There are currently no active cases here. There were 16, but they did not spread, and now nobody is currently active.
Just saying.
Thanks to our media promoting everything as a mega crisis, we will have more dead from it. My wife is a nurse, the doctors and nurses can’t get a mask for themselves since the media promoted panic buying. So....the doctors who come in contact with lots of sick and elderly people can now spread the disease thanks to 24/7 news idiots.
I stopped as soon as you said "I don't trust them".
Reason why I stopped : the Chinese lied about SARS, MERS, avian flu, pig (porcuine) virus, etc., etc...

The fact that an article about two days ago, and confirmed by a copy of documentation from Chinese government officials,
directed Chinese doctors to destroy any and all documents that they had relating to the covid-9 virus.
THus, there is no means to verify !

My guess is health care providers..many who are probably not legal citizens are the carriers...and they are infecting the elderly and other people with weak immune systems.
I wonder if what they are really trying to hide is the number of intrauterine deaths of the infants whose pregnant mothers have contracted the virus. I wonder if what they are hiding is the number of babies dying who have caught the virus immediately after birth in areas where the virus has been extant. I wonder if in horror some months from now we discover that babies in the beginning stages of development get birth defects(like the zika virus) due to moms getting but recovering from the virus but the virus crossed the placental barrier causing havoc in the genetics of the developing infant.
If this is a pregnancy disruptor and prenatal infant killer, the world would go absolutely ape crap! It might be why China really put the clamps on out going media. Is it killing our babies pre and immediately after birth?Let’s say a mother pregnant mother gets real sick but she has a good chance if she takes some steroids and antivirals, but the antivirals(hiv treatment types) are toxic to fetus’es but yet the mom may succumb if she doesn’t take the med. If this touches the babies then massive anger occurs everywhere. Oh it’s understandable that some old folks and bad lungers might die, too bad, what a shame, I’ll send a card and flowers. What is happening to the infants in utero or babies immediately after birth in areas where the virus is rampant?
I see a bunch of experts and politicians acting like Christian Scientists with appendicitis.....they dare not admit to the disease and then have to admit to the fallacy of their faith!
Please note that this is the first time THE Director of WHO is NOT a physician (say what ??)
The current Director is a politician.
A comment made on a previous posting article stated that he had previously covered up a Cholera epidemic in Somalia (unverified by me).
SO, ..consider that ..
Also, if WHO ever declared a pandemic, there are certain international legal consequences, sanctions, and restrictions which would result.
