I have said this many times but I will say it again. Conservatives are literally wasting time thinking they are going to get conservative judges. We won't. In a nutshell conservative judges are unicorns. They don't exist. There are only two types of judges. Outright leftists and outright leftists pretending to be conservative to one degree or another. We need to reform the courts to make judges accountable and to remove the lifetime tenure otherwise we will continue to lose. Trying to find a conservative who has spent their lives in a government job, wearing a fancy black robe and sits in a seat high about everyone else and has complete control of that room is a waste of time. True conservatives rarely if ever become judges. It's simply not in our nature to want power over others, or to believe we have some superior reasoning skills, or to be addressed as "your honor" and sit in judgement of others and wield power of everyone. This job attracts the wrong type of person period. It attracts the same type of people who are perpetually in charge of your HOA and they produce the same results. The sooner we realize this fact the sooner we will get to judicial reforms that will have a positive effect.

However, keep in mind that most cases are heard by a 3 judge panel, so even when it is flipped, you still end up with most or all Dem appointed judges.
The 9th circuit is still 16 D appointed to 13 R appointed. The senior judges, who can hear cases & vote on 3 person appeals but not en banc judgements, are 11R 9D.
I have never understood why people are calling the 9th circuit flipped. The last 4 who moved to senior circuit were Bush appointees and they may have flipped the senior circuit. The oldest senior judge, drawing full salary is 97. There are 4 more in their 90’s; 8 in their 80’s.
POTUS has appointed 10 9th circuit judges so far. Clinton - 9 still in service. GWBush 3 in service, Obama 7 in service.
