Several House Republicans left a closed-door coronavirus briefing on Friday after Rep. Rosa DeLauro spoke critically of the Trump administrations efforts to protect the American public from the global epidemic.
According to a transcript, DeLauro, D-3rd District, said she supported the administrations declaration of a public health emergency that allows states like Connecticut more flexibility in spending federal public health money.
That said, I have grave concerns about the lack of transparency and unwillingness to allow public health experts to speak freely about what is happening, DeLauro said. There are reports that Vice President Mike Pence, appointed by President Donald Trump to lead the coronavirus response, wants to coordinate all messaging from public health officials about the virus.
DeLauro, the chairwoman of the House Appropriations subcommittee in charge of the Department of Health and Human Services budget, also said, I have serious concerns about the administrations responsiveness with respect to funding.
We have repeatedly asked for information about expenditures, she said. And thus far, we have not received adequate answers.

“Her speech frustrated Republicans and some Democrats assembled to hear from the slate of officials from the CDC, NIH and State Department.”
“”If I wanted to hear the politics of it, I’d read POLITICO or something, let’s be serious,” said Rep. Paul Mitchell (R-Mich.), who was among the walkouts. A handful of Republicans began booing almost immediately after DeLauro raised concerns with the administrations efforts, according to two people in the room.
DeLauros comments were indicative of the growing political tensions around the Trump administrations handling of the coronavirus response. President Donald Trump, who has publicly tried to downplay the virus through a series of misleading claims, just after midnight took to Twitter to complain that Democrats were pinning the crisis on him.
But at least one Democrat was also irritated by DeLauro’s remarks. Rep. Donna Shalala (D-Fla.), who led the health department under President Bill Clinton, said it wasn’t the appropriate setting for the criticism.
No one wanted to hear that, either the Democrats or Republican. We just wanted to hear the substance, she said.”
Whew! She just keeps getting worse in the looks department....somebody give her a years supply of paper bags.....sheesh! I know it’s tasteless, I know it’s rude but I’m too old to care and too old to let it slide when something like that pops up and gives me a heart attack...
Gaak, the vultures took over its body before it died.
Trump should agree with the Dems and seal the borders.
Thanks. You said what I wanted to say, but held back. What a mess.

I’d forgotten about that “somebody beat her with an ugly stick” woman.
My question is why they are having such a fit about the Administration taking part of the $2.5 billion from budgets of other HHS programs? The Democrats want the full $8.5 billion allocated, and not moved from other programs. What game are they playing here? Would that $8.5 billion be easier to manipulate, and send to places they want it to go, without any oversight taking place? I'm not much with figures or getting around the law, but I do know that Democrats like to waste money, and I can imagine that part of their plan is to send the money to the places they want it to go...not where it's actually needed...and then finding 8-10 years down the road, that all this money went missing.
I saw the Romulan on the news and I thought, damn, she’s still alive? And still in office?
