The U.S. Air Force is changing its song to be gender-neutral as the service grows more diverse and adds more women across its ranks.
Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein made the announcement Thursday during the Air Warfare Symposium in Florida, alongside Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Kaleth O. Wright.
Goldfein said the change applies to the third verse of the U.S. Air Force Song, sometimes known as "Wild Blue Yonder," which is traditionally sung at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and often performed independently of the other verses.
~~~SNIP~~~
Verse III is now: Here's a toast to the host
Of those who love the vastness of the sky,
To a friend we send a message of the brave who serve on high.
We drink to those who gave their all of old,
Then down we roar to score the rainbow's pot of gold.
A toast to the host of those we boast, the U.S. Air Force!
The old version went, "A toast to the host of the men we boast."
Thanks. He sometimes reminds me that he is an O-1, and I was an E-7. 😁😀 Another year, and he will make 1st Lieutenant. Since I was an air traffic controller, I pretty much understand everything he tells me, about his flying. At first, he wanted to be a USAF lawyer, but being as the Air Force is so short of pilots, they told him, its pilot training, or its nothing. He accepted pilot training. Once he started flying, there was no more desire to be a lawyer. He has a new love ❤️ in his life. FLYING. All he wants to do now, is fly fly fly.
They use their instructor pilots call sign in the aircraft, but they all have their own made up humorous call signs, not official. For instance, if a guys name is Kringle, his unofficial, funny call sign, would be Kris. They never lose their sense of humor. 👍
I was a Tech Controller. In Sacramento we had a direct line to the ATC and Tower.
Thats hilarious, all I wanted to be growing up was an Air Force fighter pilot and all they would take me as was a lawyer! (One bad eye, no waivers)
