First healthcare death in Iran was an otherwise healthy nurse in her 20s.

Sure sounds like a bioweapon but they keep claiming it was all from bat soup. Did read a story about a Chinese scientist who instead of destroying monkeys used in medical testing had made $1 million selling them at markets there. That can't be good.

‘Compared to the SARS’ way of entry, this binding method is ‘100 to 1,000 times’ as efficient,’ they wrote.

...

That’s a wide margin of error.

And even if true that doesn’t mean it’s 1000 times more infectious.

Fake Title.

Does anyone know if those hand sanitizers work on these viruses? I’m getting differing opinions. I figure they will be sold out soon like the face masks. The shelf at a local pharmacy was already empty but I was able to get some at grocery store. Cheaper too. THanks.

I hate to say it, but when I read a sentence as emotionally loaded as the one this phrase came from:

“scientists warn as they discover it plagues the body”

I disbelieve everything in the article and anything written by the same source.

I’ll wait to believe any of this until an objective source confirms it, if that should ever happen.

I looked up Chinese selling lab animals and find several unattributed, vague items from a few days ago. There are zero details, just supposition or rumor. Don't get me wrong, it sounds very plausible. But it would be good to hear facts. But those are hard to come by in China.
Don’t buy China’s story: The coronavirus may have leaked from a lab, by Steven W. Mosher, New York Post, February 22, 2020.

And then there is this little-known fact: Some Chinese researchers are in the habit of selling their laboratory animals to street vendors after they have finished experimenting on them.

You heard me right.

Instead of properly disposing of infected animals by cremation, as the law requires, they sell them on the side to make a little extra cash. Or, in some cases, a lot of extra cash. One Beijing researcher, now in jail, made a million dollars selling his monkeys and rats on the live animal market, where they eventually wound up in someone’s stomach.

It's on Breitbart, all over Reddit, PatriotPost, etc.

Then there is this seemingly more credible bit from The Epoch Times, an anti-communist Chinese paper. It seems that maybe the conservative sites above have picked this up. But note that the researcher was jailed and his practice of selling animals ended eight years ago. That doesn't mean others aren't doing it, of course.

Chinese Netizens Question Source of the Coronavirus Outbreak
by Olivia Li, The Epoch Times, February 6, 2020

Xu Bo, a well-known IT magnate and billionaire in China, cited reports and articles to support Wu’s statements.

In his blog, Xu cited a news report about a lawsuit against biologist Li Ning.

Li is an academician of China Engineering Academy, and a former professor at China Agricultural University. His research was focused on transgenic animals in agriculture. The judgment in Li’s case, which came out on Jan. 2 this year, stated that between 2008 and 2012, Li’s lab sold experimental pigs, cows, and milk to local markets. These animal and animal products were bought using research funds; but Li and his fellow colleagues pocketed the money, a total of 10,179,201 yuan ($1,460,304), from the sale of these animals and animal products.

Li was sentenced to 12 years in prison for embezzlement [NOT for selling potentially dangerous animals].

Sure sounds like a bioweapon...

If it's a bioweapon - and it looks that way - I wonder if the Chinese have 'the cure' - the antidote....

“The coronavirus could be up to 1,000 times more infectious than SARS because it plagues the body in the same way as HIV and Ebola, scientists warn.”

That’s just nonsense. Meaningless gibberish.

“Experts initially presumed the spread of COVID-19 would follow the same trajectory as the SARS outbreak in 2002/3, because the viruses are almost identical genetically.”

True but only at the very start. Shortly thereafter it was determined that SARS was more incapacitating and lethal which meant that Wuhan virus would spread wider than SARS did.

I believe the markets are not reacting as much to what is happening in China. I think people started to get uneasy when cases exploded in S. Korea, and really were concerned with the outbreak from Italy that has seeded throughout Europe.

I’m still 100% for President Trump. I think he needs to work on his messaging. People will feel better with specifics of what they are doing in terms of testing, tracing, etc.

If they confirm it is a bioweapon, they’ll have to find the source. Hopefully, it isn’t originally Harvard or that lab in Colorado....

I wonder if it’s a planned release in a way the world will not blame China, kill their own and ours, to weaken us, they can lose a few million, it may be war to them, we just don’t know it yet,,, I hope I am wrong, but have given up on a moral populous..

“Coronavirus ‘could be 1,000 times more infectious than SARS’, scientists warn as they discover it plagues the body the same way as”

or not ...

not one spec of evidence to support that “1,000 times more infectious than SARS” ...

FReepers doing what they do best: ignorantly trying to spread fear, uncertainty, doubt and panic ...

Why not go all and make it one million times more infectious? 1000 times isn’t scary enough.

Most informative article I have yet seen. But I see that this article was edited due to being excerpted, but I do not see the salacious sidebar dailymail (may my eyes look straight forward) on the list of excerpted sites, which must be 300 words or less, 1/2 the words or less for short articles. However, if you check "excerpt" when posting you should be able to post 300 words. Use an online counter as this if needed, and the below excerpt checks out at 292 words:

Coronavirus binds to human body cells similar to aggressive infectious diseases...in just two months the current coronavirus crisis has already struck down 82,000 victims and almost 3,000 patients have succumbed to the illness...

the coronavirus has 'cleavage sites' similar to those in HIV and Ebola,...'This virus may use the packing mechanisms of other viruses such as HIV... It is similar to SARS, which infected 8,000 people and killed nearly 800 in an outbreak in Asia in 2003, in that it is a type of coronavirus which infects humans' lungs. It is less deadly than SARS, however, which killed around one in 10 people, compared to approximately one in 50 for COVID-19.

Another reason for concern is that nobody has any immunity to the virus because they've never encountered it before. This means it may be able to cause more damage than viruses we come across often, like the flu or common cold...'Most seasonal flu viruses have a case fatality rate of less than one in 1,000 people...'Two per cent case fatality rate is comparable to the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1918...

Once someone has caught the COVID-19 virus it may take between two and 14 days, or even longer, for them to show any symptoms – but they may still be contagious during this time.

If and when they do become ill, typical signs include a runny nose, a cough, sore throat and a fever (high temperature). The vast majority of patients will recover from these without any issues, and many will need no medical help at all. In a small group of patients, who seem mainly to be the elderly or those with long-term illnesses, it can lead to pneumonia...young children do not seem to be particularly badly affected by the virus
