NEW YORK (AP) — Harvey Weinstein was convicted Monday at his sexual assault trial, sealing his dizzying fall from powerful Hollywood studio boss to archvillain of the #MeToo movement.
He was found guilty of criminal sex act for assaulting production assistant Mimi Haleyi at his apartment in 2006 and third-degree rape of a woman in 2013. The jury found him not guilty on the most serious charge, predatory sexual assault, that could have resulted in a life sentence.
The verdict followed weeks of often harrowing and excruciatingly graphic testimony from a string of accusers who told of rapes, forced oral sex, groping, masturbation, lewd propositions and that’s-Hollywood excuses from Weinstein about how the casting couch works.

But I contend they never had sufficient evidence to bring charges, much less for the jury to convict beyond a reasonable doubt.
The only evidence was the testimony of these women, years after the fact. And without contemporaneous corroboration.
That's the entirety of the evidence.
Well.. the guilty verdicts were on the lesser crimes, so he’ll receive the minimal punishment.

Looks like that first charge carries a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 25. The other carries a maximum sentence of four years.

I agree a pig. Where were the police reports. These were not children. These two knew what they were doing. Annabella seemed more genuine.

Agreed, I sat on a jury just like this. There was no way to prove that the woman did not want the sex.we were a badly hung jury and the guy walked. The state could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the guy took this woman against her will.
Moment is one of those new internet words like just and jaw dropping.
That’s OK - there is clarity now. It’s “Pence Rules” all the way from now on. No socializing, no mentoring...and no hiring at all to the extent possible. Small business owners have been given a clear roadmap on how to proceed. Big companies with big government-controlled HR departments can perhaps afford the risk.
There’s really only one way to get to the bottom of he-said she-said cases like this: sodium pentothol. If he’s innocent, let him walk away with a recording of his non-confession to show anyone who gives him grief for it like the Duke lacrosse players. Also start an investigation into the woman to see if it was a case of mistaken identity or a false accusation, with consequences for the latter. If he’s guilty, castration without anesthesia, broadcast his confession on YouTube so everyone knows he’s guilty, then a swift execution.
You could say the same about the Cosby case, or any number of rape/sexual assault cases. Much of the time it comes down to he said/she said, and whatever testimony the jury finds more believable.
Nah, gotta keep that up so he can serve his time in some minimum security facility probably.
There’s no real “truth serum”, not even sodium pentathol. That’s just a Hollywood plot device.
