Is it too early to speculate on the Sanders running mate? Pretty sure it won’t be Biden, but other than that, what would Sanders be looking for?

Of the remaining candidates who will actually have some delegates to offer, only Buttigieg seems likely to get the call. Sanders needs someone significantly younger, for obvious reasons, but Mayor Pete would be wise to turn him down.

The main reason the D's fear nominating Sanders is not that he wouldn't stand a chance against Trump but that he'd result is historical wipeouts for the Ds in downballot races across the country as #walkaway becomes #runaway as traditional Democrats abandon the party for good. Anyone associated with such a disaster would be persona non grata and their political careers would be over.

“Pretty sure it won’t be Biden, but other than that, what would Sanders be looking for?”

what any presidential candidate looks for in a VP: a light-weight,non-threatening, intellectually inferior personality who is a decent campaigner and might be a favorite son (or daughter) of an essential state to win ...

it also needs to be someone who is in alignment with the basic values, positions, and ideology of the presidential candidate, and it’s also very unlikely to be someone who has seriously spoken ill of him on the campaign trail ... it’s also unlikely to be someone who has to give up an existing powerful position, because the U.S. VP is basically a ceremonial position with zero actual power, plus bernie has little chance of being elected, so why throw away a perfectly good power position ... probably someone younger in this case as well (it would be hard to find someone older, anyway) ... probably an ideal VP candidate for bernie would be someone black and/or female, so that fool stacey abrams would probably be the perfect VP candidate for bernie ...
