The Democrats are fracking insane
Spectator USA ^ | February 21, 2020 | James Delingpole

Proposing a ban is election suicide. The Democrats are doing it anyway.

What could be more emblematic of the American Dream than fracking, the miracle technology that has created thousands of real jobs, lowered the cost of living, generated wealth and prosperity, boosted competitiveness and helped make the United States not just energy independent, but a net exporter of natural gas and petroleum products for the first time in decades? And what could be more characteristic of the elitist, small-minded, anti-market, anti-blue-collar, anti-growth, green-obsessed liberal-left than that the Democratic party is hell-bent on banning it?

Modern fracking — horizontal hydraulic fracturing — combines two technologies in a way that only a few decades ago would have sounded more like witchcraft or alchemy than a viable business proposition. It was devised in the late Nineties by Texas entrepreneur George Mitchell, the son of Greek immigrants (his father had been a goatherd), who set out to solve a seemingly impossible problem: how to make the richly abundant but apparently inaccessible pockets of gas trapped in America’s shale formations economically viable.

After spending $6 million on research and development, Mitchell found the solution. He combined the existing process of fracking (invented in the 1940s) — forcing liquid at high pressure into the shale so as to break up the rock and release the gas — with horizontal drilling. Everyone told him he was wasting his time and money but Mitchell was vindicated. As the Economist wrote in 2012, the year before his death, ‘Few business people have done as much to change the world as George Mitchell.

Their ace in the hole is all the educationally retarded Americans they've created over the decades in the public education system.

Time to homeschool your kids, people. Or grandkids as the case may be. Mom and Dad may not have enough time on their hands but you probably do.

The RATS will do ANYTHING for a vote. Even sink the Titanic with their party on it. They will protect every gutter-level contributing cause. No matter how destructive it is.

Back when we were importing half our oil, and peak oil theories abounded, we could only dream of the day we might be energy independent.

We are there, and no thanks to the government. They did everything they could to keep it from happening. If people want to destroy what has been achieved, electing a Sanders or any of that ilk, they deserve what happens to them.

But we don’t. And there’s the rub. We don’t deserve it.

Democrat ignorance about energy is not only insane, it is dangerous.

Trump should make a big issue of this in the campaign.

Going hard left now. In the general election they will pivot more to the center.

Rooting for the Dims to pass fracking ban in the house, it would guarantee Trump winning Pennsylvania

Cheap energy is the bane of the continued existence of the Democrat party as it is now constituted. Veering as far left has they have gone, they see complete command-and-control recede further and further away, as limitations on the means to produce cheap energy are being overturned at every hand.

This destroys their game plan, which is based on the politics of scarcity and envy. Now even the very low strata of humanity have a chance to taste prosperity, and the socialist dreams ring even more hollow and unsatisfactory.

A rising tide lifts all ships.

Completely blind to logic....just like the Burisma tactic was a certainty to kill their leading candidate. What ARE you thinking ?

I’ll take nothing for granted, but I have difficulty imagining US voters putting these people in charge of anything.

Anyway...my thanks to them.

Used to love that smell of diesel in the morning when a dozen+ rigs were warmin' up for a job   :-)
When they all get hooked up and hummin' on a site it's pretty damned impressive.

Doomberg is a New York Democrat. They don’t allow fracking in NY State.

As the Economist wrote in 2012, the year before his death, ‘Few business people have done as much to change the world as George Mitchell.
Y’know, it’s interesting. Alfred Nobel invented dynamite, and became wealthy enough to fund the Nobel Prize. Point being, the inventors who change the world deserve but typically neither need nor get the Nobel Prize (n exception to the “need” issue, I’d argue, being Tim Berners Lee, inventor of the www).

George Mitchell obviously fits in the category of neither needing nor being considered for a Nobel Prize. And of course since he’s now dead, it is to an extent moot.

But if Mr. Trump wanted to use the Presidential Medal of Freedom tactically, he could do worse than to posthumously award one to the man who made America energy independent again. Wouldn’t the Democrats howl over that!
